2nd time moms...what did you need?

I am setting up a registry just for my purpose of knowing/remembering what I need to get for baby #2.  I go next week for my big U/S to find out what I'm having, I still have all of DD's clothes and my big items (pack n play, highchair, stroller, infant seat) are all neutral colors so I wouldn't have to get them again.  Other than nipples and accessories for bottles, what did you get/need for #2?

Re: 2nd time moms...what did you need?

  • Not too much. We had an opposite sex baby, so almost all new clothes. Otherwise, bottle parts, more burp clothes and cute pink bibs and blankets (not necessary, but fun), a double jogging stroller, and a nursery including crib (DS has a convertible, so he is still using it). But we have re-used all of the other big ticket items, toys, and books. As she gets older, I'll have to get toys and books more suited to her, but for a baby it's been fine.

  • I also have registry list for the same reason and I have all gender neutral stuff as well. I do need a few blankets, burp clothes, bibs, bottle brush, car seat strap covers, a hamper, another changing table pad (1 held out well and the other didn't), breast pads etc disposable bf stuff, pacifiers, and another seat protector for my car, another window shades. I have gender neutral bedding so I didn't need that. I also did mostly gender neutral sleep sacks. I do want to try some better swaddling blankets. Other than that I just need boy clothes.

  • We were a season off so we needed some clothes that were seasonally appropriate.  Other things (this is what I put on my registry);

    ~Nipples/pacis
~DS1 got lots of new things actually, twin bed, dresser, bedding set etc.  Then we reused all of the baby stuff for 2
~Double stroller, just actually bought the City Mini Double
~Going home outfit (I wanted him to have a special thing)
~Diapers (got lots of diapers as gifts)
~Room decor, found some cute  wall hangings etc. (we used the old bedding but it was very neutral and I did a different "theme")
    ~Hamper
    ~Fresh soft bath towel
    ~Ergo infant insert
    ~Clean teething toys
~A few new toys that hang from the carseat etc.
    ~Baby lotions/shampoos
~Fresh sheets (DS1's got pretty worn as we only had 2)
~monitor (we  are still using one for #1)

That's all that screams at me :) Good luck!!!

  • Gender-specific clothes, bibs, & blankets since we were having a boy; a new crib and crib mattress since DD was still using hers; bottle nipples, second camera for the video monitor, second diaper pail, sit n' stand stroller...I think that's about it.  We didn't need very much!

  • Well, ultimately we had a girl and needed pink and purple clothes, but we mostly obtained hand me downs from others.

Otherwise, pacifiers, bottle nipples, washcloths, new creams and lotions, little diapers, breast pads and creams. Stuff that I had used up mostly or replacements for things that got stained, torn, ruined. The car seat worked for this one, but if we have a 3rd, it'll be expired.

  • new burp cloths, new pump parts, milk storage bags, new nursing tanks, double stroller (joovy caboose), baby wash and lotions, a second baby monitor (we still use one for DSS#1 because his room is far from ours), and a few things that would have been nice to have last time like nursing cover, etc.  I found it helped to go through the "what to register for" list again and see what catches your eye.

  • So far we've bought a new crib and dresser (use as changing table), new changing pad cover, new bedding and new nursery decor. I've bought a ton of clothes but most of it is from second-hand stores. We're going to try CDing this time, so I bought some newborn CDs plus a new sling since they seem to have come a long way in the past three years.

I'm thinking about buying an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper but might try our old bassinet just to see if DS likes it better than DD. Also planning to get a double jogger. Will need new nipples and may need some other pump accessories.

  • We bought mostly gender neutral because LO #1 was a surprise gender For DD we needed mainly diapers, wipes and clothes. She wears a lot of DS's pjs. We needed a second crib which DS is actually using because our original crib matches the decor. When she got a bit older we got girlie bibs and started getting girlie books and toys.
  • What everyone else said but wanted to add that #2 might not like same bottles as #1. I BF and I had to try several bottles until #2 would take it. So I have our old bottles bagged up and ready to go to someone else. I even have nipples still in the packaging for the bottles that #1 liked and #2 wouldn't take!!

  • I didn't buy much... diapers and wipes, obviously.  Didn't use bottles with either... both boys so I didn't buy many clothes - just a few cute things.
  • Besides getting some new clothes and a few new cloth dipes, I didn't get one new thing.
  • We're team green this time, and we'll be a season off, so I'm sure we'll need new clothes either way but I'm not buying those now. ?Other than that, here's my list:

    ?- Double Stroller

    - Ergo w/ infant insert

    - Swaddling blankets

    - New camera lens

    - Coming home outfits (B & G)

    - New boppy

    - ?BFing stuff (new tubing for pump, lanolin, breast pads, freezer bags, etc)

    - A couple new nursing tanks, as mine got pretty worn out last time?

    - Pacis

    - Diapers & Wipes

    - Post-Partum clothes & supplies for me?

    - That's really all I can think of at this point. ?Not buying new bottles - I used Playtex dropins with DS, so if #2 seems to like those I'll replace the nipples. ?But I learned the hard way with DS not to buy bottles ahead of time. ?He rejected SIX bottle brands before I found one he would take. ?And I've bought a bunch of new stuff for DS, because he's moving into a big boy room and we'll reuse the nursery and nursery furniture for #2, since everything was gender neutral.

  • - boy clothes

    - small CDs (we didnt start CDing until dd was 2 months so we didnt have the newborn sizes.)

    - changing table (didnt have one first time)

    - a few itty baby appropriare baby carriers (I made most of mine actually...)

    - I bought a new stroller, Britax Blink. I thought about getting a double but decided against it- my dd is pretty independent and I like to wear my LOs. :)

-I wish I wouldve gotten another baby monitor as I cant find half of mine. :P

Everything else I pretty much had to dont use. I breastfeed and dont do bottles so I didnt need those. I dont plan on using pacis but am not against them if I get a real fussy baby (I gave my dd one for a couple months.) We cosleep so I dont need any crib stuff or baby room stuff since I dont set up a nursery. I guess I have a pretty minimalist approach... LOL

Yah, these lists seem really long to me.  My second isn't here yet, but so far I plan to buy:

    1.  additional breast pads (the particular brand I like comes in boxes of four and I'm missing one so I'll buy another box)

    2.  nipple cream, and probably another nipple shield just because the old one has been sitting in the bathroom undersink cabinet for the last 2 yrs

    3.  soothies soothers because DD wouldn't take a soother, and I heard these were received better.  I'm not too worried if DD#2 doesn't take one either...

    4.  I also plan to buy a sit n' stand stroller at some point, but I'm not sure if it will be before #2 is born or not.  I'd like to sell the single stroller we have first to finance that so we'll see when I get around to it.

On the off chance #2 is a boy, I'll have some time because we didn't know what DD was beforehand so most of my NB stuff is neutral.  Then I'll buy as I need.

I don't really understand buying new burp cloths.  They can be washed, and they will only be barfed on again...why replace?
