When did you start exercising?

Did any of you actually wait until 6 weeks? Last time with DD I waited but all I want to do is the eliptical so I am wondering if that would be ok to start now.

I plan on calling Dr tomorrow to see . this last 15 lbs is eating at me...

Re: When did you start exercising?

  • Yeah, I have my 6w appt. on Wednesday. I waited because this was my first baby and I didn't want to push it. Plus I've been too exhausted to even think about exercising!

  • I started already - last Wednesday was my starting point, and I'm not doing anything too crazy. I take LO on walks almost daily b/c we've been having nice weather and I started doing some arm exercises b/c my arms are so ridiculously flabby. Not too much else yet!

  • My 6wk check up was last week, and my doctor told me that I can only walk right now. He said I still have Relaxin in my body and running could throw my loose joints out of place, like my knees. I'm also not allowed to do sit ups because my muscles are still healing. So, the only exercise I can do is walking. I can do some yoga, but he said I needed to wait another month (or TWO) before starting a real work out routine. Poo.

  • I started walking at about 4 weeks.  But that's all I've done so far.  My 6 week appt is on tuesday so we'll see what the dr says

  • I started walking two weeks PP, and taking short runs after my doctor approved it at 5 weeks. I did have PP bleeding for 6 weeks though and even though my doctor doesn't think it's related to my activity I do.

  • Maybe I'm a wuss, but I'm 9 weeks PP and still can't do much other than walk, because I still get sore around the incision area. Blech.

  • I waited with DD 1 until 6 weeks but I felt awesome by 1 week PP with this birth so I started the elliptical right away. The elliptical is so low impact and just as easy as walking IMO so I wasn't worried. I started the 30 day shred last week after my PP bleeding had stopped. I exercised up until the day I delivered so my OB felt I could start earlier as long as I took it easy the first couple of weeks.
  • With my second I started hiking with weight (DD who was 33lbs + the weight of the backpack) and running at 2 weeks pp. But my hips are really loose this time so I will likely wait until 6 weeks if not more. I'd love to be thin, but it's not worth getting injured over.

  • I have a horizontal abdominal separation... and my ob said not to work out until she checks it out at the 6 week. But I've been snowmachining and snowshoeing... walking... normal activities but not intense workouts. Just normal lifestyle activities for us...
