Dreamfeed...leaky diaper

Anyone do a dreamfeed? DD is 9 weeks and the last 2 nights I have done a dreamfeed per the pedi's recommendation. She sleeps from 7ish to 1 ish wo waking which I think is pretty good but hoping the dreamfeed tops her off and maybe she'll go longer. Anyways, both nights she slept till 3 but both nights she soaked thru the diaper and sheets! She is 12ish pounds and I have her in size 2's. I dont want to continue the dreamfeed if it means I have to change sheets every night! I did this with DD 1 too but dont remember having this problem. Anyone else dreamfeed and have a suggestion?

  • What is dreamfeed?

  • I change DD's diaper just before I feed her.  Its so quick and she hardly has time to realize she is being woken before she starts eating and then is right back to sleep when she's done.  I feed her at 11 and she sleeps straight through until 5, which I think is good for 5 weeks.  I did the same with my son and it worked great.  GL!
  • I would try either going up a size in diapers or trying a different brand to see if they fit her a bit better.

And to the PP, a dreamfeed is when you feed baby without waking him/her, hoping to stretch out their sleeping - rather than just waiting for him/her to wake from hunger.  Lots of people use this tactic when the largest chunk of sleep is from 7 or 8 in the evening until whenever.  Most likely Mom stays up until 10 (or whenever) and then dreamfeeds baby right before she goes to bed to stretch out baby's sleep.

  • What diapers do you use. I do this with DS and I have no problems with leaky diapers. We use pampers size 2 and he is about 14lbs. We have never had a leaky diaper.
  • Hmmm I use Huggies Size 2 and she is almost 13 pounds. I'll try Pampers!
  • I also dreamfeed and if I change my daughter she wakes right up.  I started to use a diaper doubler which prevents leaky diaper.   I got mine at BRU.
  • Never had this problem with DD, either - my guess is it's the diaper fit.  I think I would try a different brand or size to avoid having to do a diaper change in the night.
