Success after IF

More pain than giving birth

Well worse than a medicated birth that is.  My right boob has multiple clogged ducts and is as hard as a rock.  I went to an after hour place and the NP told me that the only way to "fix it" would be to take a hot shower with DH and have him roll his hands down the breast and put a ton of pressure on the area.  He warned me that it would be worse than giving birth and that I would cry.

Well I sure let out some sounds but did not cry. It hurt so badly that I thought I would either pass out or throw up :(  We have tried to unclog it twice and it is getting softer but we still have a LONG way to go.

I swear, the worst part of giving birth are the after effects.

It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • That sounds awful!  I'm so sorry you're going through that and what can I do to prevent it?

  • That is the thing, I am not sure how to prevent it except STAY ON SCHEDUL!!   I EP and I missed my pumping session by 30 minutes.  I have missed sessions by 1 hour before and never had any problems!  Damn you Target!  We had to get Halloween candy and so I pushed it back and woke up in boob hell!!

  • that happened to me twice and it was awful!  i'm so sorry!  i used warm compresses & hot showers and pumped every hour at night while i was at home.  DH would massage it while i pumped and it was so painful (like you said) but after about 2 days it went away.

  • I got that one day and wow did it hurt!   I think mine happened because my top was too tight.   When I got home from work I was in agony.  I took about 3 hot showers that night and used the pump in between.   By morning it was feeling better.  Hang in there!
  • It's usually a combination of engorgement and pressure from something like a bra strap that's too tight or a heavy bag strap or sleeping on your side with pressure on the boob, etc.

There's helpful info on other things you can do on kellymom.com...definitely apply heat and do compressions while you pump.  Hope you feel better soon!
