Go to ER tonight or wait until tomorrow? (long)

Lucas fell while jumping off our guest bedroom bed, which is a very high bed. He landed on his knees. He immediately said his knee hurt and was limping. We felt all around, moved it back and forth, and he said it didn't hurt. He continued to limp, though. Then he started telling us he couldn't walk. We sort of thought he was being overly dramatic (like his mother) because he had just walked with no problem.

However, ever since, he's been falling a lot. It almost seems like his knee is incredibly weak or that it keeps giving out on him. He's still intermittently limping. We gave him ibuprofen about 3 hours ago.

I'm thinking we should just wait it out and see if it's still bothering him tomorrow, but my husband is really worried. What would you do?

Re: Go to ER tonight or wait until tomorrow? (long)

  • If he isnt acting like he is in horrible pain and you think you can get him to go to sleep than I would wait until morning. You will spend far less time in the ER if you got first thing in the morning (8am or earlier).

If he is so uncomfortable that ibuprofen/Tylenol isnt helping than I would take him tonight. Since its not a life/death situation and youre sure he didnt break anything (if he can put any weight on his legs I would guess he didnt break any bones) than there is nothing they can do tonight that they couldnt wait a few hours and do in the morning. GL and keep us updated!

  • I agree with PP.

    Hope he feels better!

  • If it were Cedric I would probably just wait until tomorrow unless it gets real bad.  But like they said above, if you can get him to bed...defiantly tomorrow.  Let him get a good night sleep.

  • I would wait until tomorrow unless he is just miserable.  I hope it is nothing, and he feels better tomorrow.

  • Thanks ladies. I took your advice, thank god.

This morning the limp is completely gone, and he says it doesn't hurt at all. I guess we're just dealing with a bruise. We'll just keep an eye on it.
