Baby H was born at 8 lbs. 10.5 oz, which is right on the border of what's considered "newborn" size. She fits in newborn clothes and diapers, but only just barely and probably not for much longer.
I held off on ordering the Jillian's Drawers trial kit because we were willing to use disposables until she's out of the newborn size. We didn't want to invest in newborn CDs that would only get used for a couple of weeks.
My question is this... the Jillian's Drawers trial kit (regular size, not newborn) starts at 12 lbs! Isn't it going to be a while before our 8.5 lb. baby reaches 12 lbs? Should I go ahead and get the newborn trial kit so we can get started and not have to wait until she's 3 months old? I'm so confused.
I will go visit the CD board and browse around, but I thought I'd ask here first because I know there are a lot of CDers around.
TIA for any advice!
Re: Jillian's Drawers CD users, can I get your advice?
Right, I understand that. I guess what I'm wondering is whether or not it's worth it to invest in newborn CDs, or if I should wait until she's the next size up. I just didn't realize that the next size up doesn't fit until 12 lbs, so I'm second guessing my strategy.

I've started a stock of newborn cloth diapers. I know I won't use them long, but I will use them for another baby (hopefully), and there is a market to sell used cd's too. I also thought getting started with newborn would give me an early idea of what types and brands of diapers I like, in addition to the Jillian Drawers trial before buying a bigger OS stock.
ETA: just wanted to add though that the bulk of my NB stash will be prefolds and covers (cheap cheap and easy).
I would not get newborns and here is why.......the next size up is going to give you a much better overall view of what will fit her long term. If you end up going with one size pockets (which are the most popular) then you really aren't going to get a good idea of fit out of the newborn group because although all the one size diaps say they are newborn -35 pounds (or whatever it is) nobody I know thought they worked very well with newborn.
Since the whole point of the trial is to fit her with a variety of diapers to see what works best for you I would wait. Also she'll be 12 pounds before you know it. I know that Andrew was 12 pounds by 3 months AND he was only 6.6 at birth and didn't regain his birthweight until 3.5 weeks so he gained 6 pounds in 2 months. They really, really pack it on in those early weeks.
OK, sounds like it's not as far off as I thought!
She's a chunkster too... chubby all over, with long arms but not a particularly long torso.
OK, that reaffirms my original plan. I wanted to wait until she's a bit bigger so we could try a variety, but I was worried that I'd be waiting for months and months. It sounds like I'm wrong! I guess we'll keep using the disposables until she's big enough for those "regular" CDs.
My husband reminded me that if we were to get the newborn CDs now, we would have them for the next baby. He's right, but the issue is like you mentioned- from what I've heard, CDs don't always work very well on newborns anyway.
Thanks!

Just wanted to chime in that my little guy gained a pound a week between ages 4 weeks-8 weeks. He was 7.5 at birth and nearly 15 by 2 months! He was a super chunkster, though :-)
Yet today he is wearing a vest he wore for Easter LAST year. Their growth rate really slows way down (eventually)!
I waited for my son to use up my newborn and size 1 diapers I received at my shower before I tried the cloth diaper trial. So even though I started at 4 months-ish, I've gotten a lot of use out of my cloth diapers.
