Someone tell me..

that the epidural won't be bad compared to the contractions I'll be feeling. I haven't been scared of it until now. I go in for my induction tomorrow and am all of a sudden terrified. I cry at the drop of a hat! Let's all keep in mind that I have an incredibly LOW pain tolerance. Indifferent

Re: Someone tell me..

  • I was terrified of the epi, but I didn't even feel it. If you really want one, it's not that bad.

  • With ds i didnt even feel the numbing shot and with dd they had to try to insert it twice... still wasnt as painful as the contractions.

  • The epi is going to be the least of your worries if you have a low pain tollerance...  when you start having those contractions you will send your DH running down the hall to find the anestesiologist.  You are NOT going to want to go without it.  Stop worring about things you will be fine.  Remember women have been giving birth now for thousands of years!  It's what we were designed to do.  Smile
Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
  • I had atleast 5 epi's during my labor/post labor experience....they were nothing compared to the pain from the contractions.  I had complications from the epi, but I wouldn't have wanted to go through labor without it!
  • I cried while getting mine, only because I was scared. The numbing just felt like a pinch then relief. I don't know what I would have done without my epi.

  • I waited it out 5 hours before getting the epi.  I was miserable.  It took them 7 tries over a span of an hour and a half to get it in... those contractions were the worst because I knew that I shouldn't be feeling them.  But, it was worth it.

  • Aww..I am still waiting for my baby but I wanted to say good luck! I randomly cry because I am terrified and know that if I need to be induced, I will feel the same way the night before! I can't wait to hear how it goes and see that LO! Will be thinking of you.

same here!  Good luck with everything!  Hope it goes smoothly and quickly for you so you can hold your precious little baby.  Epi or no epi, pain or no pain... it will all be worth it!!

  • Woman are you crazy?!?!  The epidural saved my life!  Since my water broke at 10:15pm, and I was only at a 2, they gave me ambiem and stadol.  The stadol made me freaking INSANE.  I thought I was out of my mind, and I couldn't sleep at all!  By 4:30, the contractions were crazy!  I could not focus.  I was exhausted and again...crazy from the stadol.  The nurse kept telling me my contractions were not regular, and I was still at a 2.  But honestly...something was NOT right.  The pain was horrible.  They finally gave me an epi, and holy moly!  What a sigh of relief!  And guess what?!?!?  In that 15 minute time frame, I went from a 2 to 7!!  And I got 4 hours of sleep!

  • The epi doesn't hurt at all, the only thing you will feel is a pinch from the needle they put in before the epi to numb the area. The pinch wasn't even that bad. Just remember, just because you get an epi, doesn't mean it will work. My guy botched mine and I ended up with a spinal. My whole left side was paralyzed and I could feel EVERYTHING on my right. Not trying to scare you though, most of the time they get it right :)

  • I was terrified at first, but after the lidocaine shot, I didn't feel anything but relief!  Just push your back out as far as you can, take deep breaths, and try to relax.  It only takes a few minutes, and then you'll be on your way to resting through your labor.

  • I was afraid of getting epidural at first.  But I am glad that I got it.  It allowed me to get some sleep while the pitocin did its thing overnight.  I thought getting the iv was more painful than the epi.  Good luck with your induction.
