Pumping and working

My LO is still in the NICU but im going to go back to work in 2 weeks and use my leave for when she's actually home. I have a 15 minute break every 2 hours and then a 30 minute lunch but i'd have to pump in the restroom which isn't a big deal but then I have to freeze the milk and I have no where to do that so do you just pump and dump or how would you do it?

Re: Pumping and working

  • I bought a mini fridge to keep at work. But if I weren't able to do that I would just bring an insulated lunch bag and ice packs to keep the milk cold.

  • I often pumped in my car if necessary.  I kept a little milk cooler (just like a lunch bag) with some ice packs in my office.  I would not pump and dump....... it would be such a waste and you want all that BM you can get at this point.

  • I kept it on ice packs and froze it when I got home. Never had a problem with any of my milk.
  • Instead of taking the 15 min break every 2 hours could you combine them and take a pump break every 4 hours for half hour?  Or you can maybe eat lunch while you pump with a hands free pumping bra on.  Why do you have to freeze it?  Can't you refrigerate it or is there no fridge too?   Could you bring a cooler to work and then just refill it with ice as day goes on- if there is an ice machine or somewhere you can pick up ice from?  I really liked my Fridge to Go cooler by playtex.

  • I know in TN the state laws say they have to allow you break times for you to pump and have a room other than a restroom to pump.  Ask your boss, it was awkward to ask my boss but sooo worth it!
