Two Under 2

Should we get a 2nd glider for DD#2?

We currently have a glider (well, it's an espresso colored leather recliner/glider) in DD#1's room.  We use it every evening to read books and rock before she goes to bed.  We started when she was 6 months old after we established her bedtime routine.

Any suggestions on what to do for DD#2?    Should we go ahead and get another recliner (it's on sale right now, very reasonably priced compared to a lot of gliders)?   Or can we somehow improvise without a chair in her room?

We plan to put the chair in our basement family room if/when DD #1 outgrows it or she moves to a full-size bed and we don't have room for it anymore.  We have room for a 2nd chair in our family room as well.

Re: Should we get a 2nd glider for DD#2?

  • My hubby didn't want to get another one so we didn't.  And DD did not like it one bit.  She didn't like me using her chair to cuddle with DS and feed him.  So, we ended up getting something new for her room when DS was about 2 months old.  Then she was happy again :)

  • I'm getting a second. DD is used to her routine, so I don't want to mess with it.

  • I guess if you need one in each room, I would get another, but you only have one butt, so....
  • We got one for the second room and we use both chairs daily. We still read stories every night for DS in his room and we read stories for DD and I nurse her in the middle of the night in the chair in her room. For us it was definitely worth it, a necessity.

  • Yes, get one.  It's one of the things I saw debated over here all the time, and I just had to have another.  Let me tell you, I have not regretted it one.single.bit.  One of the few baby purchases we use every single night, and nap time for DS.

We have one in DD's room, and one in ours (where DS is).

  • Thanks ladies for weighing in!  It's nice to hear what others have done!  The good thing about buying two chairs is that we'll have matching chairs to put in our family room some day!

  • We don't have the space for 2 chairs outside of their rooms, so I posted on our neighborhood website asking if anyone had a glider they wanted to sell.  Someone gave us one for free!  It was actually nicer than the one we paid for!

But if you have a use for the chairs after they've outgrown sitting in them (perish the thought!), then seems like a worthwhile investment.

  • We did get another glider but it was one my MIL got from a friend and she had at her house. But we probably would have bought a cheap one if we didn't get one.

  • DH didn't think we needed another but my view is/was that it isn't #1's fault that we decided to have kids so close together. So she still has her rocking chair where we read to her every night and we have a new glider in our room that will go to DS's room when we move him. Also, I don't love the first one so I wanted a better one since I knew how much time I'd spend in it BFing and rocking, etc. It will eventually move to living room or den...
