Levi (2 1/2 months) has what appears to be a nasty cold. It started Thursday morning and by the end of the night he was pretty bad. Yesterday was downright miserable and today is proving to be the same. His snot is most certainly green, but he hasn't had a fever at all. He is coughing and it sounds productive, but I'm thinking that is stemming from the copious amounts of drainage. I'm fairly certain they won't be able to do anything for him, but I don't know if I should still call since he's so young.I'm at my wits end bc Hunter is sick as well, but is taking full advantage of me having to deal w/ Levi all day.
Re: would you call the pedi?
Nope, the girls were sick just like that at 5 weeks old. There is nothing they can do at this age.
The only time I would call or take in would be for extended fever, can't get fever down, wheezing, barking cough, labored breathing, lethargic, or signs of dehydration.
Just do steam showers, suction at diapers changes, saline drops, elevate crib, and you could put vapor rub on your chest for him to breathe in while holding them.
My moms saying which is pretty consistent with the colds we get here is 3 days coming, 3 days here, 3 days going. Hang in there as its rough watching your LO's so sick at this young of an age.
Katie: 1/16/08 2lbs. 15oz.
Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
If you're sure it's just a cold, then no. However, there is a lot of stuff going around right now. If he's breathing okay and isn't wheezing, you're probably right that it's just a cold, but if there is any doubt then call. What does it hurt? Also, I know a lot of people look for a fever before they call, but Ava and Charlotte have had their share of ear and sinus problems that required antibiotics and more often than not they didn't run a fever. The only way I can tell a difference between a regular cold and an ear/sinus infection for them is their behavior--they are much fussier and they sleep poorly. If he's not especially fussy or having trouble sleeping, then it's probably not one of those things. Hopefully it's just a cold that has to run its course, although it stinks you can't do anything about it
I know it's rough when they're so little, but Lila was very congested when she was a few weeks old and also had a cold/low-grade temp last week, and both times I've just let it run its course. That's really all you can do if it's just a cold. Hope he's feeling better soon!
Thanks ladies! I decided to hold off on calling. If he is still feeling bad on Monday I will probably call just to see what they think.
Becky--a crib?! Levi has no idea what that is bc he refuses to sleep in anything else. but the swing and him being sick has made it that much worse!
Kessler, everything that is going around is exactly what made me question whether I should call or not. Hunter is the one that started with the cold and passed it on so I don't think it's anything more, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it. He has had congestion since he was 2 weeks old and now his nose is just a full on faucet!
