Sleeping flat vs. inclined

DS is a great napper if he's in his My Little Lamb seat or Baby Bjorn seat. At night he goes 4-6 hours in the RnP. But lie him flat in his crib or PnP bassinet and he's not happy. Anyone else? How do you plan to transition LO to lying flat? Eventually he's going to outgrow these little gadgets!

Re: Sleeping flat vs. inclined

  • my son is exactly the same way!  I've been trying to put him a little at a time flat in the bassinet or crib for mini naps and he will be ok for a little while, I'm hoping others reply to this because I'd like some advice too!

  • I really think this is a baby-specific thing...my son didn't like sleeping flat, either, but my daughter has no problem with it. It's not something you're doing right or wrong, and I really don't think there's much you can do to change it...they'll transition to sleeping flat just fine in their own time (my son did). As someone who has been through this before my advice is to just let them sleep however they like to sleep for now and don't worry to much about creating bad habits. We had no problem transitioning my son to his crib when he was ready.
  • I have one side of the crib propped up on books.  My kid doesn't sleep though so who knows if that works- but it is one of the things I tried to help her in the crib

  • DS was the same way - would never sleep flat, in anything!  it had to be in our arms, in his car seat, in the RnP...  then all of a sudden at around 12 weeks, i set him in his crib to hang out while i was putting his laundry away quick, and he feel asleep all on his own.  he's been sleeping in his crib every since!

everyone told me it would just happen one day - sleeping on the back - and they were right!  it really did just click with him one day.  and i never tried to put him in there very much.  once i realized he didn't want to be on his back, i never really even tried the crib or bassinet, so it's not like he got used to it or anything...it really was just all of a sudden.

  • Our DS is the same way. He's 2 weeks and we tried for week 1 to put him on his back in the PnP and he was not going to do it! Pediatrician just said to put his little lamb seat in the PnP and he's slept much better ever since! We're just going to go with it for now. Glad to hear I'm not alone.
  • My LO is like this too. I was in BRU yesterday and saw a "crib wedge" It's like this wedge piece you put under the sheet to prop LO up. It is $15.00, and I was and still am thinking about getting this. I wonder if it would help.
