Anyone else disappointed in their pregnancy cravings?

I have wanted children for as long as I can remember. At 5 I had the names of my children, age differences, and order of sexes picked out(which of course is TOTALLY different now) but this is something I have always known: I was born to be a mother.

One thing that has stuck out in my mind since I was very little about pregnancy is cravings. I remember thinking that pregnancy was a lot like the movie Lady and the Tramp, when John Dear would go out in the dead of winter at 3 in the morning to get...watermelon was it? all kinds of bizarre cravings. This is silly, but I was looking forward to those.

I really feel though like I haven't had any odd cravings. Like I eat some pickles, but I've always eaten and loved pickles. I eat more sugary sweets(like sour worms, mmmm) more than normal, but I've always had a sweet tooth. I am loving me some pancakes and some cake. Veggies...ehh I've always loved them but I don't feel a "pull" to them. I eat a lot of spicy food, but I always have.

My point though, is just that I don't feel like I have a stereotypical craving to put to this pregnancy, if that makes any sense. I am wanting it all! And it isn't anything I never wanted before. Anyone else felt like this?

  • "And some chop suey!!"

lol I'm a disney dork. I really think most cravings are a deficiency of certain vitamins/minerals so its probably best when you aren't getting any. That doesn't mean when you see a Hardees commercial at 11pm you can't want it immediately, however! That's how my cravings are. I see it, I want it.

  • I've had a couple cravings but I don't think that it's been anything I desperately wanted. More just I'd like to eat that and I'm not going to bother to resist because I'm pregnant. What I've been really surprised about are the insane number of aversions that I have. I wish I could trade them in!

  • Everyone keeps asking me if I have had any cravings.  Nope, mostly I just don't want anything.  I am finally at a point where eating or thinking about eating doesn't make me feel sick.  However, it's mostly sugary sweet stuff, which is always the way I have been.

I am terrified that if I go in for my glucose tolerance test that I will fail and won't be able to eat any more sugary foods.  That's pretty much the only type of food I have been able to stomach.  Though meat and vegetables are getting to be more tolerable.

My blood sugar has always been stable, even with the amount of sugar I eat, but just scared of this!

I did have a craving one night.  That was for onion rings from the bar.  DH did bring some home for me as he had gone out that night.  Too bad it was midnight when he brought them and he said he would bring them by 9...  At least he brought them. And I did eat them!

  • We're about halfway through so there's still more time - maybe it'll happen later. At the beginning of this pregnancy I had to have cherry pie and bottled root beer. Random, I know! With my daughter I craved cheese - even crumpled cheetoes on top of lasagna to satisfy my craving. I still get made fun of for that move!
  • I'm more disappointed in my aversions. I miss spicy foods and red meat SO much! All I want is a huge steak, but this baby won't allow it.

Red meat has totally been one of my biggest aversions! At least in the 1st trimester...after becoming violently ill on prime rib, the thought of eating another steak or decent cut of meat made me queasy. My hunny and I though, just the other night, did in fact have steak for dinner...the only way I could stomach it without fear of ralphing?? A-1 Steak Sauce. As long as it had steak sauce on it, I was good. I totally want steak for dinner tonight now. Maybe you can try that?? Smile

  • I haven't had any bad craving yet, more aversions then anything. Last night we went out to a good burger place and I was so turned off by my burger after 3 bites.
  • I don't have major cravings either. I go through phases.

At first, I loved knishes (wasn't dying to have them, they were just uber-yummy). Then it was Cap'n Crunch.

    Most recently, eggplant parm.

Nothing I'd send my husband out for in the middle of the night, ala Jim Dear and Darling.

  • I am a vegetarian and have been craving  burger for so long.  I finally broke down and got one, it was delicious! I ate it so fast my husbnd was shocked.  But I got sick after, and I haven't wanted meat since then.  I ma glad I got it out of my system.  Other "cravings" I have had include apples and cheese, which was a snack favorite as a kid and I still eat quite often.  But the amount of apples I eat these days is kind of ridiculous.

THe other night DH was making milkshakes, and he kept asking me if I wanted weird stuff in them, pickles, tomatoes, onions.  He said if he just made me the shake I would have told him, "You should have put ____ in it."  Can't blame a guy for trying, but all I wanted was milk and ice cream!

  • Other than my need to have green apples in the 1st tri b/c they helped so much with my nausea, I have not had a "real craving" for food yet.

I do have to drink my water out of glass mason jars and my glass water bottle. I need it to be ICE cold.

DH keeps asking me when he is going to have to do a "craving run"  He is so         disappointed that he has not had to get anything yet :(

  • LOL I was just saying to my husband yesterday that I'm disappointed that I don't really have any cravings. We have this great little ice cream stand near our house that I love and I was looking forward to having the excuse to go every day, but I haven't wanted ice cream at all (although maybe that will change if it ever gets warm here in Boston). I'm not a huge chocolate eater (rather fruity or sour candy), but I've been having a decent amount of choc milk, so maybe thats a craving. I take it as a good thing that I'm not having weird cravings, but I have a feeling it will kick it later.
