I wanted to but a lot of people said I should just wait until I got home which is what we did but for next baby I am definitely bringing them to the hospital. I think its just a matter of what you want, I can see how it might have been overwhelming for a 1st time mom but now that I've been doing it awhile and know what to expect I really want to start from day 1
We had a homebirth and have used CDs from the beginning. J. has only worn sposies over Thanksgiving, when we didn't have access to a washer. (FWIW, that was a terrible weekend, diaper-wise. Every single one of his poop diapers leaked.)
I've since refused to use any sposies. Yes, CDs take up a lot of room when travelling, but I love them!
If I were to ever have a hospital birth, I would definitely bring CDs with me. (Meconium stains less than BF poo.)
We didn't start cloth diapering from the begining, but I've had patients who have. Most of them used liners for the meconium, which seemed to help since it is super sticky. The only problems I've seen patients have is the washing. If you are there for more than 2 days, someone should wash the diapers for you. I think if you practice folding and putting the diapers on before getting to the hospital, it shouldn't be too much of an adjustment. You just don't want to be overwhelmed with getting used to the baby and trying to figure out the cloth diapers.
Babywearing, cloth diapering, formula and breastmilk feeding, still can't believe I'm a mom, momma to my little man, two furbabies, and two angel babies.
LO is due in May, and I'm definitely planning to CD in the hospital! I'll be using GMD prefolds and fitteds for the most part during the newborn phase; I'll take my 24 newborn fitteds to the hospital (and my adorable Lil Joeys in the Lux pattern for going home).
Married to my best friend 6/5/10

BFP #3 10/6/12, EDD 6/16/12., Matilda born 6/17/13.
We didn't for DD because we didn't start until she was about a week old. With the next LO I don't think I will take the cds to the hospital. I will probably bring one or two for when we are ready to come home.
Our hospital encourages rooming in so baby will be with us pretty much the whole time so I think we are going to do cloth there. I'm sure we'll do disposables for the first couple changes and if he/she has to go to the nursery for various reasons but I am excited to start them so at least for the last day we're there we will use them. I also am excited to have his/her hospital pictures to be with a fluffy bum!
I didn't but I will next time. My childbirth instructor said the staff "wouldn't know what to do with them" but I don't think she knew the first thing about modern CDs. I bought diapers for the trip home though. Next time I'm bringing my stash and starting from day one. I say do it!
Having twins we are expecting tiny ones and are not doing a true newborn stash. So we will not be, just doing preemie disposables and then waiting on our osocozy better fit prefolds and duo size ones to fit well!
No personal experience yet, but I plan to use sposies in the hospital since I've never done this before, and then I'm just bringing cloth to take her home in- 2 Lil' Joeys in Lux. Also, I have a couple prefolds and a cover in the bag just in case she's a chunker and the Lil' Joey doesn't fit.
We didn't with my daughter and since we ended up spending an entire week in the hospital I guess it was for the best. They sent us home with so many disposables (4 packages I think) that we didn't even start cloth for awhile.
This time I'll bring a CD for her to go home in, but I'll use their disposables at the hospital just in case this baby has to go to Pediatrics also.
we took the 365 [whole foods brand] chlorine-free diapers to use. i was only there 24 hours but i think if you stayed longer it might be annoying to have to wash them all right when you get home or have to send someone else to wash them while you're still in the hospital.
we actually used those until the meconium was gone but i'm sure that's not necessary.

i used disposables at the hospital. LO was a few weeks early and we didn't have the cloth diaper stash just yet. although looking back im glad we used disposables in the hospital. im sure it would be doable to use cloth but my lo was small (5lbs 6oz) and in the NICU and nursery for jaundice so it would have been hard to use the cloth for us. good luck! i say do whatever you are comfortable with.

For our son we just used what the hospital's disposables in the hospital and used cloth as soon as we were home.
For the next one I will bring a few cloth diapers for pictures and going home but I'll be mainly using disposables in the hospital. I just don't want to have to deal with the dirties AS SOON AS I get home from the hospital. Plus if I have a c-section again I'll be there for a few days longer and that would just be more of a nuisance for me.

This. I just don't think I'm going to want to do laundry as soon as we get home. But I am taking a couple cloth diapers with me for her nb pictures and coming home outfit.
I didn't with DS but definitely plan to when we have a second. My plan is to have a big stash knowing how many dipes DS went through as a newborn, I don't want ot have to do laundry every day, especially if I have another c-section. I couldn't walk right for almost two weeks...
anyway, my plan is to pack enough diapers for a day and then have other bags ready to go for my husband to bring each morning. When he brings me the new bag of clean I will send him home with the dirties and he can wash before he goes to bed. He knows nothing of this plan yet
BFP#1 10/26/09 EDD 7/4/10 Beautiful Baby Boy born 2 weeks late 7/16/10
BFP#2 8/23/11 EDD 5/11/12 Natural Miscarriage @ 6 weeks
BFP#3 5/22/12 EDD 2/10/13 Stick Baby!
I want to add that DD had a reaction to the Pampers in the hospital so that is part of my decision. That and I'm a very confident CDer now whereas before everything was new and unknown. I don't think it will be a big deal to throw in a load of laundry when I get home. DH knows how to do CD laundry so he can do it if I don't feel up to it.
DD was in the level 2 nursery for a few days so I don't know if they'd do CDs or not so my back up plan is this: If for some reason we have to use disposables in the hospital, I will be bringing our own Seventh Generation sposies because those didn't irritate DD like Pampers did.
