Anyone have a little one who had to wear an EEG monitor at home? My 14 month old daughter has seizures and was just put on an outpatient EEG for the weekend. I am going crazy trying to keep the gauze wrap on her head and keep her from getting tangled up in the wires in her crib. When she was inpatient for 5 days she was hooked up the whole time and did fine. Now its a nightmare. The girl who wrapped her head didn't do it very tight, by the end of the car ride home it was already off. I just found her in her crib completely unwrapped and all tangled up in the wires. Any suggestions?
Re: ambulatory EEG?
Wow how frustrating, for you & your LO. I really don't know what you could do. Did they give you a number to call to speak to a nurse or an EEG tech? I would try to call & speak to someone if possible. Maybe wrap/tape the lead wires together?
All three nuero's my DD have seen have basically said ambulatory EEG's on a child under 4 are pretty much worthless because they don't stay on & beacuse of that, fail to give an accurate reading. I would be particularly concerned about the entanglement issue, as it could be a strangulation hazard.
I hope you are able figure something out, so the doctors can get the info they need. Good Luck!
I'm going to be in your shoes in about a month when my son has this done (he'll be three in June and has absence seizures). I have no suggestions but the tech who did my younger son's (10 month old has partial complex seizures) most recent EEG said that a tight cap (winter hat etc) that is really snug and stretchy will help but mostly it's vigilance and making sure he doesn't muck around with the wires, which we all know is damn near impossible with toddlers lol. Our plan is to wrap his head with coban (the self sticky gauze stuff that vets often use on animals) and use a winter hat that is snug. Hopefully if we can keep him busy enough he won't think about it!
Good luck! I'm not looking forward to DS1 having this done. I hope your LO will leave it alone so they can get some results.
How did it come out? I bet you are happy to have it over with!!
Hopefully the doctor will call today with the results. She had it taken off at 3 PM yesterday. I'm not sure how fast they read them where it was such a long test. We were both thrilled to have it off. She was so cute last night moving all over the place. I know we both slept great!
Thanks for asking! I'll keep you posted.
