Where to donate cord blood?

I want to donate LO's cord blood and I can't seem to find out which company is connected to Jefferson Hosp.  Does anyone know?  I just read the cutoff to register is 32 weeks and I will have reached that point by my next appt. so I don't think I can wait to ask the OB.

TIA!

Re: Where to donate cord blood?

  • DH and I wanted to donate too, but couldn't find a way to do so.  What I found in my research is that there are a limited number of banks doing this and most of them are affiliated with a certain hospital.  Some claim to accept mail in donations, if you pass a screening, but the few that I was able to locate didn't give enough info on the process and when I tried to email them I either got no response or directed back to their website, which is where I had started.  I would call your doctor's office, or if the hospital has a dedicated info line try that (mine has one for general hospital info and booking classes, I'm delivering at Reading Hospital).  Also go to www.health.state.pa.us/bloodcord  , www.marrow.org  , and www.ParentsGuideCordBlood.com  These are the sites my office gave me when we started looking into it, and I believe one of them has a link to a site that lists almost every cord blood bank (private and public) in the country, and what hospitals they are associated with.  Good Luck!
