Anastrozole?

Hi. I'm new here. Been TTC for 2 years with lean PCOS. I don't ovulate on my own, and did not respond to any dose of Clomid.

My RE just prescribed anastrozole to for ovulation. I guess it's similar to Femara but I can't find much info on it.

Has anyone ever used this? And had success? :)

Thanks!

Re: Anastrozole?

  • Yes this is the generic of Arimidex My DH actually takes this for MFI/low testosterone issues. It is a drug also used to treat breast cancer. Just a tip if your insurance doesn't want to cover it shop around at the pharmacies. We get it at Costco for $21 for 30 pills. Walk mart and walgreens wanted around $400 even for the generic. Good luck!

  • My husband also takes it for low testosterone.  Normally our bodies turn testosterone into estrogen,  this drug slows that down so your body keeps more testosterone.  I don't know how it would help a woman, though.

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

  • I've been finding most info for male issues too :( I really don't understand why my RE recommended this odd drug instead of moving me to injectibles.

I have yet to find one other female who has ever taken this drug for ovulation. I hate feeling this defeated so early in a cycle, but who knows, maybe it'll actually make my follies grow.

Thanks so much for the input! Big Smile
