Success after IF

When are you going to introduce the potty?

I purchased the frog potty today even though I haven't decided if I'm going to show it to him yet. I see him mistaking it for a toy. DH and I both pee with the door closed so I don't even think he'll grab the concept.

Should I leave it out for him to see now or wait a little bit longer?

Re: When are you going to introduce the potty?

  • We got one about 18 months, and he was potty trained by 27 months. (we were not working on it that whole time) but we left it out. We also only have one bathroom, and I have to leave the door open when I am home LOL or they would destroy eachother or the house, so they kind of get what the toilet is for.

  • I sort of impulsively bought the frog potty just after Christmas, when DS was 19 months old. I've left it out in the bathroom without pushing it in any way, just casually mentioning it and what it's for once in a while. He always follows me into the bathroom and that's when I'll talk about it.

At first he seemed to think it was funny, but very soon he started to ignore it and even gets a little upset when I mention it, saying "No potty!" with his scrunchy pouty face. Not sure what's up with that.

I do hope to start actually trying to get him to use it soon after his birthday.

Anyway, to answer your question, I think maybe it would have been better to introduce it just a few days before I wanted to start training. It's served no positive purpose to have it sitting around for months. *shrug*

  • without stepping on my soapbox... 7 months. While I don't think you can "train" them to tell you at that young of an age, MILLIONS of people other than americans put their kids on toilets of some sort at a very young age, go "pssssttttt" when they think they've learned they're due to pee, and they are out of diapers in the 1st year, sometimes slightly there after, max.  Kids have predictable bowel movements, put them on when they're due.  While I think "EC" gets a lotta rolled eyes (it did from me) I never bought diapers after her 2nd bday. And she had a HALF o' HANDFUL of accidents since then.

    This.

My first was on the potty at 18/19 months and my 2nd was on the potty at 3 months.

And FWIW - I'd start using the restroom with the door open.

It's nothing to be ashamed of and they really do learn a lot from modeling.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Did I read that right?...3 months? Wowza!

Thanks for your advice, girls. I'll keep it in the bathroom and see what happens. I don't mind peeing in front of my son, it's just my husband who I have a problem with :)
