Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Those of you with 2+ LOs...

Do you use a double stroller?  I'm looking into getting the BOB Revolution jogging stroller but don't know if I should wait until we decide to have DC#2 so I can get the double.  Thoughts?

  • My children are almost 3 and almost 1.  I do not have and have never used a double.  I used an Ergo with the baby, and my son would sometimes go in the stroller or sometimes just walk.  We went to FL and borrowed a stroller from my brother.  That's the only time I've used one.  We are in a cold weather state, though, so maybe that influenced it.

  • Yes, we do, a Graco.  DS1 will actually sit in the stroller without protest so it's saved me on many outings.  Even when he does want out, he hasn't figured out how to unbuckle it!  I just wish I could attach a grocery cart to it...

  • I use our City Mini double all the time.  How long are you going to wait to have another LO?  Most strollers have a weight limit.  I know when we were looking DD1 weighed 30 pounds, so we needed one with a higher weight limit.

  • We had the single with #2 because DH runs.  He loves it as a jogging stroller or for walks around the neighborhood but I do not like it for everyday use.  It's heavy and huge for manuevering around the mall or children's museum.  It's a pain to get in and out of a car.  We considered getting a double before #2 was born but the thing is HUGE and even heavier and I didn't want to invest that kind of money and then not ever use it.  Unless you have a large car, the double is a challenge for taking anywhere.

We are actually about to buy a double BOB now only because we've moved since #2 was born and are near the beach.  It's an awesome stroller to take to the beach and actually push on the sand.  I think I'll use it a lot next summer.  I'm glad we waited though because for the first 6 months, I just wore DS #2 (he hated being put down in a stroller) and by the time he was interested in going in the stroller, it was winter and we weren't walking outside.

If you aren't even pregnant yet, I'd suggest a single BOB for now.  They resell really well and for high prices on Craigslist or at kid's consignment stores, so it's not like you'll waste the entire purchase price if you want a double 1-2 years from now.  I'm actually keeping the single because we want one more child but not until #2 is like 3.  Both kids will probably be out of a stroller by the time #3 is in it, I won't want to lug a double for no reason.

  • I use our double pretty frequently. I have the Graco duoglider (warning it does not steer easily). Yesterday I used it at the fair and I ended up carrying the baby and pushing it so sometimes I think wearing the baby and pushing a single stroller would be easier.

  • Nope. No double, no sit & stand.

I have our single stroller (Kolcraft Contours Options four-wheeler) and use my Beco or sling for DD2. DD1 takes turns riding or walking, and sometimes she even does short stints in the Beco if she wants to.

If they really both need the option to ride (which isn't often), DD2 is old enough now that I can use our wagon.

I do my running sans kids. I don't know that I'd want to push a double while jogging even if we had one!

  • I would not get a double if you do not already have 2 kids.  I have a sit & stand and a double jogger.  We had a tandum double, but DD1 hated it, it was hard to push and very long.  I never used it and sold it.  That said, I love the strollers I have.  I just have a baby trend sit & stand (bought used for $40) and a In-step double jogger bought at walmart.com for under $200.  Great options for inexpensive $$.  ETA:  Both stroller though under 40 lbs, do take up pretty much the back of my caravan, so not an option if you have a car.
  • My kids are 4 years apart, so I did not get a double stroller.

I am starting to teach a stroller fitness class and my DD will have to come along for the summer classes when she is not in school.  The rule is they must ride in the stroller for the class so I bought a double off craigslist.

Really depends how close your kids will be.  I would say anything over 2.5 years spacing you probably don't need a double.

  • Love my city mini. LOVE.
  • We have the Maclaren twin techno. Its a side by side with a slim profile. I love it! It steers great, can fit in stores and through doorways. I found it online at babye-store. Google it, bc I may have the address wrong. They had free ovenight shipping. It was also discountrd bc it was last years model.
  • I would say it depends on the age difference between the kids, so I wouldn't think about a double until you are pregnant.  My boys are 15 months apart and DS1 didn't actually walk until he was 14 months old, so we really needed one.  Friends who've had 2U2 have generally needed one and swear by the various ones they've picked.  Those whose kids had a bigger gap have survived just fine without one!
