TTC After a Loss

? for those who chart

So I have never charted, but are debating starting while we are TTA... does all the charting take out the fun of BD?  Does anyone regret starting to chart?

Re: ? for those who chart

  • I don't regret it at all. It keeps me in control. If I just left it all up to fate, i'd be a nervous horrible wreck.

  • I don't regret it.

And I don't think it takes the fun out of BD *most* of the time.

I definitely obsess over it....can't even begin to lie about that. For me its been my losses that have taken most of the fun out of FWP because I just get irritated that I'm still here TTC.

If I didn't chart I'd be terrified if I was pregnant and something was wrong because I wouldn't know my exact O dates or exactly how far along I was and might obsess that I'm measuring behind when I really may not be...and I'm supposed to get on progesterone supplements the minute I get my BFP (or before if I test low at 7dpo, so another reason I have to chart) and if I wasn't keeping a tight record I'd be horrified that I might start taking the prog too late...lol, those are the things that kill the mood for me...all the worry. But charting, for me, alleviates some of it.

  • It makes me feel empowered.  It doesn't take the fun out of BD time...it actually adds to it; we've had some pretty exciting weekends thinking it was our best chance to BD :)

I don't regret charting at all---I've learned a lot about my body and after our m/c and realizing I've had inconsistent periods for 15 years, my OB suggested tracking/charting my cycles anyway.

  • For me: did not take out any fun, in fact I felt more of a sex drive when I knew I was Oing!... DH: yes.  He felt too pressured.

We resolved this by making an agreement that I would not tell him when I O.  I am a complete type A personality so I love knowing when I O.  I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility to help me understand more about my body, as well as using fertilty friend (click on any FF ticker in siggys)- which also provides a wealth of information and tutorials.  Good luck!

  • I don't regret it. I like to know that I am indeed o'ing, and when it is happening for TTC. I don't believe I would ever be so "lucky" to just get pregnant, so I like knowing when exactally we need to FWP.

  • For me, my first time around (before loss) I was going to start, but didn't.... and looking back, it would have been nice to see what my cycle did then when I got a BFP.  (like when I O'd, temps, cm,)..at that time I just used a cell app.  luckily my body stayed on the 28day cycle (I think from being on bcp so long) so that helped.

Now, it's helping me understand my cycles and body so I have data to figure out what is happening when.  It hasn't totally impacted me alot, DH a bit cuz of the pressure, but we talked and as long as I don't make it too obvious that's why I want to FWP, then he's cool and can "perform, no stress".  :)   so happy compromise.

  • I think TTC in general can take the fun out of BDing :)  But I loved charting.  I learned so much about my body.

  • ***chants***  Do it!  Do it!  Do it!

It gave me such a great idea of when I ovulate!

No regrets starting.  However, after my last cycle with flippin' high temps (and every pg symptom in the book), I thought I was pg...but then AF came.  I realized I was stressing a little bit with my temps...so I have not been temping this cycle.  It is a relief, but that's after I know my body.  I know when I ovulate...makes bding easier.

  • It probably sounds silly, but I love charting. I look forward to seeing what my temp is going to be each morning. It makes me feel like I'm actively doing something to help us TTC instead of just waiting around to see if it will happen. Also, I O late and have a short LP. If I hadn't started charting I might never have found that out. If I had just been relying on the average of "everyone O's on cd 15" I might never have gotten PG in the first place. (I'm not saying that's what ppl who don't chart do, that's just a reason for me, personally, to chart)

Charting also teaches you about your own personal body. We're all a bit different. Just something to think about.

  • I have only good things to say about charting.  I have PCOS and it is one of the things that finally got me to a Dr who could diagnose me.  Plus, my cycles are really irregular, so it is really helpful.  I did try not charting one cycle and I found that far more stressful.
