Please someone tell me my math is wrong. If the baby gains a half pound a week on average that puts my baby at about 9 pounds at birth. Holy Hannah! I was hoping for a healthy happy 7.5 pounder.

How big do you guys think your LO's will be at birth?

I just had a growth u/s on Wednesday, and they estimated baby girl to be 3lbs. 13oz.. so if I go by the 1/2 pound theory.... she'll be a little of 8 lbs. by 39 weeks, when I go for my C section. My son was 8 lbs. even, so that makes sense to me.

I can't remember when the 1/2 pound/week rule starts... going off my 28 week measurement my LO will be 7lb 13oz at 40 weeks... seems normal to me. Some babies are just bigger- my husband and his sister were both just under 9 lbs at birth.

My girls were 4 lbs each on Wed. I was told that they are in the 30th percentile (based on a chart for singletons). I am hoping to make it to at least 36 weeks and for them to be at least 5 lbs each.

DS was 8 lbs. I do not think my body would be able to handle 2 big babies.

My OB told me on monday I'm measuring 3 weeks ahead. eeeeeek!!

I go in for an growth ultrasound at the end of the month to determine if he's actually big, or it's just the way I'm carrying him. I was 6lbs 11 at birth (and two weeks late!), and DH was 7lb12....

I'm hoping for around 7.5 lbs....but I'm afraid he is going to be over 10 lbs Indifferent

my first was 7lbs 14oz 21 inches born at almost 40 weeks and my second was 7lbs 8.3oz 21 inches born at 39 weeks. today she was measuring 4 1/2 lbs. i am guessing she will be around the same length as the boys and close to 8lbs. i know both of my boys didn't follow the 1/2 a lb a week rule

If all of us are supposed to be pregnant for 40wks then according to math won't all of our babies weigh the same assuming we are all average?

No. Because all of our babies are different sizes at growth scans. Some run in the 40%ile, some are measuring in the 65%ile (me). And the half pound thing is just an average.

I think that was her point--all those are just averages so you don't really know if your baby will be gaining half a pound a week or if she will be 9 pounds at birth.

Regardless of all that useful information above...I am expecting an 8-9 pounder at 39 weeks. DD was 9lb 3oz at 42w. Second babies = usually bigger, as are boys.

haha my boys didn't follow that rule either!! i was glad bc i was scared he would be the typical 1lb bigger. glad he wasn't!!

Yeah but I was just basing it off of my u/s. I would agree with her in general if I didn't know where my baby was at 31 weeks. I'm not saying my baby will pop out and my math will be perfect because babies grow at different rates. I do get that. It was just a theoretical thing based on the growth scan.

Lol. I don't know if I would want that surprise or not. I don't think I would have had one either but I haven't gained weight and my bump is small. I don't know where this kid is hiding. I don't know what I'll do if she actually is 9 pounds. Yikes.

You'll be really frustrated with all of the newborn and xs size diapers you have...and wonder what to do with all of the newborn clothes!

I've read that from about 30 weeks onward, every baby grows at its own rate. So I don't think the 1/2 pound per week applies to everyone...it's probably just a generic statement. But who knows, right?

I have no idea how big our baby will be...I was only 4lbs7oz, and DH was 7lb 11oz. I'm hoping for somewhere inbetween...like 6 lbs and change lol. But both of our younger siblings were bigger than us, so I wonder if those genes got in there?

I was over eight pounds and was born on my due date. DH was six weeks early and was 5lbs 4oz. I'm pretty sure he would have been a big baby if he had been full term.

Growth scans can be pretty inaccurate and a lot of people end up having inductions or cesareans based on them when they probably could have delivered on their own just fine. In fact, ACOG does not recommend inducing or doing a c/s based on growth scan estimate alone. Studies show that it does not improve the outcome for either mom or baby. So if you think about it, what is the point of even doing one, unless there is a specific medical issue? If you wouldn't be any better off doing an induction or c/s, why even do a growth scan?

I'm wagering he's going to be 9 or 10lbs. K was 8lbs even at birth (39w,5d).

He was close to 5lbs already at an US at 25 weeks (which I know can be anything but accurate), but I was 8lbs15oz at birth and MH was 9lbs15oz, so a big baby is most definitely in the cards.
