beta numbers?

I mainly lurk here but I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience with their pregnancy?  I am very newly pregnant for the second time.  This past Wednesday I had to go to the ER to fever and dehydration from the flu.  While there they did blood work & a ultrasound on me.  They couldn't see anything on the ultra sound but said it could be because it is so early.  My beta number was lower than they expected for 5 weeks it was 319. I went in again for testing today (2 days later) and it was only at 420.  They are still concerned so I am going in again on Monday for more bloodwork.  At this point I'm preparing for the worse but still a little hope for the best.

Re: beta numbers?

  • I did have a similar experience with my second pregnancy where my beta's were going up but pretty slowly.  Unfortunately I lost that pregnancy, so that might not be what you want to hear; but there were others issues with bleeding from the beginning (sorry if TMI), and not having a LMP date from nursing too.  I do hope yours story ends better than mine did!

  • Those are pretty low numbers.  I have had two separate pregnancies where my numbers increased, but very slowly like that.  Sadly, neither pregnancy was viable.  I know my OB was always concerned about a possible ectopic when my beta levels rose slowly.

I'm sorry you have to go through that.  The waiting and uncertainty are awful.

  • I am a 2 time surrogate and know a little about beta numbers I had them done in both of my pregnancies.  I am sorry to say that your numbers don't sound high enough for 5 weeks and they should double every 24 to 48 hours.  Sounds like it might be a chemical pregnancy.  So sorry :(
