So glad....

I started pumping during his long nap.  I had reached a point where I wasn't able to pump anything because my body had so perfectly adjusted to my LO and I was really upset about not having a lot in the freezer because I want to be able to feel like we can go out if we have a baby sitter.   So I decided to start pumping about 2 1/12 hrs into his long nap because that is the half way point and I wouldn't feel like I was taking anything away from him.  The first few days were really upsetting because I would only get 1-2 oz total and I didn't feel like that was enough today I finally got 3 oz!  I am also kind of glad of the time frame that I choose to do this because he should go through his 6 week growth spurt sometime soon.  And now I am on my own so hopefully having already increased my supply and having extra in the freezer will make it easier.

Just thought I would share in case anyone else has noticed they can't really pump anything because they are so perfectly tuned to their LO.

  • How old is your little one?  I want to start pumping to save up some milk, but I wasn't sure when to start.

  • I am so happy too because I'm finally getting a storage started! For the longest time I would pump and then DD would wake up. I would try to BF but it was never enough so I would end up giving her the milk I pumped!! I will have to try pumping half way though her nap too because for now I was only pumping in the mornings and sometimes at night.
  • I have been pumping ever night at every feeding. I feed my girl one of the bottles and the other goes into a milk storage bag for the freezer. At first, I got 2 oz per breast, and now I get 4-5 oz per breast. I need to buy the 8oz bottles for my pump because the bottles that came with the pump only hold up to 5oz. :) It feels good to know I'm building up a good store for her in the future. And really, bottle feeding her and then pumping at night is a lot faster than it would be to nurse. I've found that during the growth spurts, having the bottles to fill her up helped her to sleep more normal at night than it would be with breastfeeding. Then, bring on the harder day.
