Reco your PNV

Right now I am just taking some Meijer brand with a fish oil for DHA and it's nasty! Tell me what brand you take and if it has a stool softener (that would be fabulous!) I don't want to spend a fortune on PNV's but I'm not overly concerned with the price. I just know some of them are really over the top expensive.

Re: Reco your PNV

  • with Alex I took the ones my doctor prescribed that tasted like vanilla. I tried about 5 kinds with Cameron but they all made me sick so I barely took any :( the dha ones were the worst. I couldn't even stand flinstones children's ones as an alternative.

  • I take the ones prescribed for me - I think they are called Vinate Ultra? I fill them at the Meijer pharmacy & they are FREE!! I do have to take them at night before bed otherwise I'll have an upset tummy but overall I'm fine with them. They do have a stool softener in them as well.

If it's free, it's for me! Thanks for the reco and heads up. I will have my RE write a script next Thursday.

  • I took the Meijer ones because they were free. Fish oils never bothered me, but there are few other ways to get the DHA if thats the issue.

  • I've taken the same ones with both pregnancies, they're the Target brand PNVs. I take it right before bed and I've never had any problems with them. They don't taste/smell funny and they don't make me sick. I also take generic colace to help with the stool softening.

  • I do either the walgreens or cvs brand that comes with a DHA pill.  It's a nonfish DHA.  They often run BOGO deals and I stock up.  Will keep taking these while I BF and will then switch to plain generic PNV until we decide we are finished having kids.

  • I took the Target brand too, also took them at night, and never had any problems with them. They were not at all expensive and got the seal of approval from my obgyn. There was no difference at all between them and my best friend's prescription PNV. Actually I think the Target brand had more folic acid!
  • I took Kroger brand for my pregnancy and while EPing.

  • Before you have your RE write the script for that specific PNV, ask the pharmacist about it..  Meijer changed what PNVs were free, and the pharmacist told me you could ask for a generic PNV script that would cover whatever one was "free."

FWIW, I took Calnate and that was my wonder drug...  I had been sluggish and lacked an appetite until 16 weeks... as soon as I switched PNVs, I felt way better.  When I was preggo, it wasn't free.

  • I take two Flintstones vitamins and one Nature Valley folic acid + DHA from Costco. All multivitamins and PNVs hurt my stomach, so my OB recommended Flintstones.
