Trying to Get Pregnant

MORE temp confusion, and a question.

Ok, so I posted yesterday feeling confused about my temps. The general consensus was that I was probably ovulating yesterday. So when I temped this morning, I fully expected to see a jump. But instead, my temp was even lower. I really, really think I have already ovulated. My cycles are only 31-32 days, and today is CD18. I'm just starting to get frustrated and confused. This is the first cycle I've really charted properly, and it's harder than I expected it to be.

And now for the question. When I temped this morning, I (for some reason) took the thermometer out of my mouth for a second before it was done. Popped it right back in and the reading was 96.63. I decided to re-check immediately after, just to see if taking it out had made a difference, and I got 96.53. Which temp should I be using? Thanks for your insight, ladies. I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing everything wrong here.

  • OK For arguments sake -- never ever ever ever ever ever ever pop the therm back in

Just temp once. and DEAL WITH the FIRST temp

with 31 day cycles -- and you have no idea how long your LP is. You needn't worry about the fact you haven't O'd yet.

    Give it time

    Be patient.

ETA :: you can ovulate 36 hours after your last positive OPK, so I bet you will ovulate today. or you ovulated last night, It's still just a guess though. You can get a postiive opk and not ovulate.

  • I am also temping for the first time this month and I understand your frustration completely!  It didn't help me at all that I started temping halfway through my cycle either.  That being said, something that I forget on a regular basis is that sometimes you won't see what you need to see from your chart until the end of your cycle.  Almost like it's best when used for hindsight on how the month went so you have a better idea of what your body is doing for the next cycle.  I keep trying to use my chart to figure out how the rest of my cycle will turn out, but I don't think that's realistic for those of us who are just really starting to chart seriously.

Also, TCOYF does say that some people take a couple of days to respond, temperature-wise, to the increase in progesterone so that could be the case with you.  Just keep temping and I bet you'll see a clearer picture when you get closer to the end of your cycle.  I kept expecting a shift this month as well and I got it about three or four days later than I thought I would.  Good luck!

  • Also, your positve OPK can detect your surge up to 36 hours in advance.  So, depending on what time of day your got your + OPK on cycle day 15 it's not impossible that you still could ovulate this morning.  Especially since your temp is down even further this morning.  :)  Just keep it up!

ETA: You know, if you ovulate today that would put you right on track to have a 13-14 day luteal phase which is considered a normal range.  It's less common to have a 16 or 17 day LP.  I'm thinking you could be right on track.  Smile

  • I am not sure about your question...I would say go with your first temp but since you took it out and then put it back in, it would not give you an accurate reading. So I guess either mark it on your chart and leave a note...or go with the second temp and leave a note on your chart.

As for your chart it does not look like you have Oed yet...but perhaps you will be soon. I saw a positive for like 2 days after I got my first one. Did you take any more to see if your surge is over? It looks like maybe your body is gearing up to O any day now or maybe you will O much later then expected....

  • Im not seeing that you O'd yet...you might O today or tomorrow. Some people get a dip right before they O. They always say when in doubt hump it out! GL

My OPKs since that day have been negative. Which is part of my frustration. I expected to O about 24-36 hours after I got the positive OPK...which means that I expected my temps to be going up by now. Maybe I am just one of those people who take a while to respond to the progesterone.

You can get a + OPK and not O...my prayer partner has had several "gearing up to O"s and not ovulated.  However, she is 1.5 year PP and still partially BF.  I don't think that you have Oed yet, based on your chart.  It is not uncommon to have delayed ovulation---look at me last month!!!  CD30!  Good luck though, hope you O soon!
