We might get to go home! And ?s abt BP, home nursing & feeding tubes

If Scarlette tolerates bottle feeds during the day, they are going to send us home doing bottle feeds during the day and continuous feeds through her NJ tube at night.

EEPS! We're over 130 days into this and we are ready for home for sure.

So here are my questions for those of you already at home:

Do any of your LOS have feeding tubes? Scarlettes goes into her small intestine so it is not one I will be allowed to replace. She tends to manage to get it off her face, even with mittens on. Any suggestions? Is the pump hard to work?

Do you any of you have home nursing? We will have to have one to monitor the NJ tube and I am wondering what to expect.

How easy/scary is the monitor? I don't know how long she'll have to wear it but I am nervous about it.

Do you any of you give your LOs medicine for high blood pressure? Scarlette just devloped this and they said it just randomly occurs in preemies from 3-6 months. It is meds 3x per day for about a year. Any experience with this?

Thanks y'all! I am praying, praying, praying that this works and we get to come home :)

  • I don't know much on the feeding tube, but the apnea monitor (if that is the monitor you are talking about)...at first it gives you a piece of mind knowing while your sleeping if something happens it's going to go off but after a while it just get annoying because 100% of ours were false alarms (thank god).  The monitor was very easy to work and they monitor company should show you exactly how to use it with information to take with you incase you forget.  We also didn't have any high blood pressure medicine but did have other medicines and if she is bottle feeding good then you just put some in with her feeding and down it goes.  Our little girl did really well once we got  her home and now is off everything and becoming quite the chunky little thing...so I wish you all the luck in the world.

  • I hope little miss Scarlette gets to come home soon! My DD came home on an apnea monitor (if this is what you are talking about?) on Jan 6 and is still on it (dr said until at least May 1st) and it was nice having it knowing that it would catch any A's or B's, but then it became annoying when they were leads falling off or false alarms.  I am trying to wean myself off of it and letting her nap a few times without it on, and she is up to 9 days without any spells so we are hoping she is over that by now (3 months old already!).  Good luck, and best wishes for your family!  =)
