Need Help with 9M Daughter Biting while BF!

My 9 month old DD has just gotten her 4th tooth in and almost every time I feed her she bites me. I've tried tapping her on the nose and mouth and told her no biting. I ignore her for a minute. I don't want to wean her just yet, I was hoping to BF until she is a year at least, but is she telling me that she's ready to quit? Any of you who BF or did BF your babies have any advice on this!?

  • when my son bites I take him off and put him on the floor. I tell him "no bite, that hurts mommy" in a stern voice and walk away. He usually cries for a second, but its important for him to learn that it hurts.

It was a stage, he's now 18 months and tandem nurses with my 4 month old.

  • A loud, shark "ow" got DD to stop the one time she did it to me.  Otherwise I would do as the PP suggested and unlatch her and put her on the floor, telling her no biting.  Is it possible she is doing it because she is done nursing for that session?

  • It's totally possible that she's done. That's usually when she does it, but she had only eaten about 5 minutes on one side and i tried to let her eat on the other and that's when she bit. Normally she eats about 8 minutes on each side.

  • I scream when my son bites me.  Not crazy loud, but I definitely let out a yelp.  That stops him in his tracks.  The other day I thought he was going to take off my nipple.  Sheesh.

  • I read this, I think on here, push the baby's face into your boob immediately.  It makes them unlatch because otherwise, they can't breathe.  I tried it with DS and it worked instantly.  Only had to do it a couple of times before he figured out, biting = boob face.
