The nurse in my doctors office keeps citing the "keep it under 140" but a trainer at my gym who has taken prenatal/postpartum certifications said that is not necessarily the gold standard anymore.
I plan to talk more with my doctor at my next appt and am trying to arm myself with some other information in order to have a better discussion about it.
I'm not trying to be contrary but it doesn't make much to get my heart rate to 140 so that seems low to me.

I'm curious about this as well. I told my doctor that I've been aiming for 160 as my max and he was comfortable with that. I have heard that the 140 limit is outdated, but I don't even know where I heard that. I hope someone has some good info to share on this.

It was ACOG that originally came up with the 140 bpm in 1985, and then ACOG who later said that was unnecessary in 1994. A few links:
