AHHH I feel like a failure!

J has been up screaming since 5am.  I'm not sure what is wrong but I have run every scenerio in my head.  Is it something I ate and the bm is upsetting him, then I found crap in the tubing we used to give him his meds last night..is that the cause?  I tried to give him more of his prilosec this morning and I"m not sure if he got all of it or if most of it ended up on us.  I just had to put him in his swing and walk away for a min, so thanks for letting me vent.  I just want to cry along with him.

  • Hugs! I'm so sorry he's having a rough morning! Have you looked to see if there's something poking him somehow, maybe something wound up in his jammies or something? No fever or anything? :-( It's awful when your baby is upset and you don't know what's wrong. I hope that he calms down soon and you both are able to relax and that the rest of the day isn't stressful for you. Hugs, Mama!

  • Aww big hugs! I'm so sorry ..i know how you feel. You most definitely are not a failure! We all have moments were we have to walk away. I always say I wish there was a print out you could get that told you what was wrong with them. Hopefully hes feeling better soon and you get a glass of wine tonight!

  • Having a colicky baby sucks, T.  You're not a failure, you're human.

    Big hugs, sister...big hugs.

Is he swaddled up?  When Madelyn would go mad like that, I'd swaddle her up, take her into a dark room and hold her on her side close to my chest and shush her fairly loud in her ear - typical Happiest Baby on the Block technique.  Sometiems ti worked.

  • You are not a failure!!  Sorry you are having a bad day Sad  Sometimes no matter what you do, babies will cry and putting them in the swing and taking a breather is the best idea.  Hugs!!

  • You are NOT a failure!  I hope J starts feeling better soon and your day greatly improves!
  • G ran super hot as a baby (still does) so he was nekkid (diaper only) most of the time inside if not swaddled for sleep. Gripe water and the exercise ball were a constant for us as well....Good Luck! St. Paddy's after all - it has to get better!

Colicky babies are so tough.  You get no sleep at night and it feels like they are constantly crying.  It's horrible on the nerves.  I didn't realize just how bad it was with Jillian until we had a comparison with Hayden.  I can't imagine how hard it would be to have one with colic on top of another child.  Hang in there.  You are certainly not a failure.

  • Colic and AR babies are tough.  I have been there, I know what you are going through.  Is there anything I can do to help?  I mean even coming over on my lunch (I work in Bellevue) and rocking/bouncing while you sleep.  I have perfected and I might patent a certain rock/bounce!  It works great for DD.  Also, do you need a wedge for him to sleep in?  Coreen graciously loaned me her wedge, I also have a tucker sling and I am ready to forward the sling on to the next family.  You let me know.

Also, swaddling helps.  I found that the swing did help but make sure he is as up right as you can get it.  Their poor tummies do not like to be scrunched!

  • You're not a failure! It's so hard hen they can't tell you what is wrong. Sounds like you're trying the reflux scenario so you're doing what you can right now. I hope he gets better soon.

Madelyn lived in her swing during the worst of times when she wouldn't sleep.

And I am not sure about Madelyn but DD likes the swing to go a certain way, side/side was not good, back/forth was best.  Also, if it appears to be stomach pain and discomfort, which is a huge issue for DD, I would draw a bath and put her in it.  She totally relaxed and calmed down.

and....see things are coming to me.  There is a DVD from Baby Einstein that is Mozart.  We were given it as a gift.  It has been used for colicky babies.  It works.

Same here....back and forth.  She (and William too) also like being bounced.  I bounce them on an excercise ball we have.  Some nights I'd be up all night with her doing that - but she was sleeping.  Same with William.  When he's been really frantic as of late, I'd hold him to me SUPER tight, shuush loudly in his ear while I bounce him.  Knocks him out every time, for a little while at least.

Oh I would love the sling!  Anything to help this along right?  He is sleeping in a Rock and play that is slanted right now and he loves it but I will have to get a wedge when he gets a bit bigger.  Yes I found as his symptoms got worse, all of the sudden he liked to be swaddled again but I do fear that he will start to throw up and gag on his spit up because he is swaddled.  He has pretty much been napping in his swing during the day.  I swear the worst time of the day is between say 6am-11am and then he seems to calm down.  We have a dr appt tomorrow and I'm curious to have her listen to his lungs because this cough is really bad that he has gotten : (

  • Ah, sister... I feel your pain!! DD#2 was born on Jan 10th so our LO's are pretty close in age. She was up every hour last night and then from 8am to about 3pm (with occasional 10-20 min cat naps here and there). We couldn't figure out what was wrong, eventually she just crashed out. I had forgotten how hard these early months are, but hopefully in the next month or two things will get a bit better.

     Hang in there!!
