Recovery time from Laparoscopy?

For those of you who have had a laparoscopy, how many days did it take you to recover?  I'm having both a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in a few weeks and am trying to determine when I should schedule to be back at work.  Thanks!

Re: Recovery time from Laparoscopy?

  • I had mine on Thursday and was back to work on Monday.  I would say I felt pretty good after 3 days though.  I did have a weird nerve issue with my leg that affected me walking long distances, but my dr said it's pretty rare.

I just started working out again on Tuesday, and my lap was 2 weeks ago, so it took me about 12 days to be "back to normal" (although my run yesterday was brutal and my leg was still sore...I'm not at 100% yet!).

I had mine on a Friday and went back to work on Wednesday.  I had planned to go back on Tuesday, but my boss wanted me to take an extra day to be safe.

  • I had a lap, hysto, d&c, & removal of endo all at once.  I had my surgery on a Thursday, and wasn't able to go back to work until the following Friday.  My problem wasn't the pain from the surgery as much as the gas that they pump into you.  It took a long time for me to be able to stand up straight without being in pain.  I'm very tiny so I don't know if that had any effect on my recovery.  My obgyn recommended a lot of gas-x and gingerale to help relieve the air that was trapped inside.  I also have a friend who had a lap done and she went back to work a few days later.  Everyone is different.  I'm wishing you a fast and pain free recovery!

  • The recovery time after my Lap was pretty quick - procedure Thurs and by Saturday I was basically back to normal/low-paced activity - BUT, it ended up being exploratory, as they didn't find any endo to remove and my tubes were open.  If there is actual improvements/surgery made, I'm sure the recovery time would be longer.  My only discomfort was from the gas in my abdomen, as the PPs said.  Good luck!!  :)
