Just did a prenatal yoga DVD...

and I felt so weak...could barely hold the poses! I've done nothing active except walk the dog a few times a week (and my job involves a lot of walking and being on my feet), but I want to try to be more active while I still have some energy. I have 5 sessions to use to a yoga place locally (bought a Groupon), but decided to try the DVD first, so I know what to expect. It was 45 minutes and the class is 1 hr 15 min. I'm not sure how I'll do and now I'm afraid of the class, ack!

Re: Just did a prenatal yoga DVD...

  • which DVD do you have? I have Shiva Rae's and I like it. Not quite as challenging as I've done before. I am also taking a prenatal yoga class locally. Really liking it.

    Goodluck!

  • It was "Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett." I got it from the library...unfortunately they didn't have Shiva Rea, I did look for that one.

  • My friend and I are taking a prenatal yoga class & we both love it. I look forward to it (almost) every week! Ours is about an hr and a half but you spend a lot of time relaxing too. I dont find it too hard at all and they always tell you to stop if your uncomfortable. Have fun and its a lot easier than you think, at least I thought so. I was also worried about joining since I wasnt in great shape and not that flexible. Enjoy!
  • I've been doing one on Netflix called Crunch:Yoga Mama. It's very beginner friendly. I have zero flexibility and am easily able to do it.

Oh, I didn't even think about Netflix, thanks!

I also liked this video. But, if you've never done yoga before, don't be too hard on yourself! It's a good, gentle workout. Just take it at your own pace :)

  • Instuctors are different of course, but my yoga teacher is super relaxed, and she always reminds us that if we're not up for a particular pose, don't do it. You'll be fine! Enjoy the class.

  • Laura, the class is not bad at all. There are varying skill levels within the class (some who practiced yoga a lot pre-pg and a lot who didn't). And it's not an hour and fifteen min of hard poses. At the beginning there's time connecting with yourself and baby, doing small movements to loosen your hips, etc. And the last 10-15 minutes are pure relaxation. You are always encouraged to just do what feels comfortable to you. Plus, there are women at all stages of pg, so some who barely even look pg all the way up to women who are full-term. Obviously just due to belly size alone, everyone is going to be able to do different things. Come give it a try. I'll definitely be there this Sat - after missing the last two weeks (first my DD's bday party and then the class cancelled) I'm really missing it!

I can't go Saturday, I work in the morning ( once a month, I work with kiddos with Down syndrome.) But if I can motivate myself, I might go to the GF class Sunday. It's actually the same distance from my house. I'm glad to hear you like it! I just suck at trying new things. But I'll get there!
