Update to Pedi wants me to stop bfing

So the doc just called me (I called and left a message saying I was not going to stop BFing) and he said that is ok, but he wants to have a liver enzye test done.. But that test can be avoided if I stop BFing for 3 days.  I said I don't want to stop BFing, so we can do the test (I do feel bad that DS will have to get blood drawn ... breaks my heart) but I'd rather keep what we have going and get it a test to confirm its Breast milk jaundice and not something else-like his liver...  So I'm keeping him breast fed and we have to get his liver tested.  I guess over all good news.

  • I applaud you for standing by what you believe is best for you and your LO.  GL on the test.

  • Good for you for sticking to your guns! Let's toast our milky boobies with a green beer! (Okay, maybe I'm just making up an excuse to get my hands on one...) But still, good for you. And it might not be a bad thing if your LO gets the liver test done- if there is an underlying issue, you'd never have found it simply by switching to formula.

  • Thank you for posting about this. Lucas' jaundice was at 17.5 so we had to have him on a biliblanket. His number went down to 17.3 and they assumed he peaked so we lost the blanket 2 weeks ago, but he still looks a little yellow. Now I'm prepared to be told the same thing, so thanks again for posting. Oh and good for you. You need to make the best decision for you guys and I'm glad there is another way to do the test.
