Tell me I'm being silly

My first pregnancy I had pre-eclampsia followed by a placental abruption that I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I hadn't been in the hospital when it occurred.  My whole pregnancy this time my bp has been real nice 100-110/60-70.  I had my last ob appt today - my bp was 124/80, my urine registered a +1 for protein, and my ankles just started swelling a couple days ago.  I started to panic. My dr says its no big deal because my bp is still normal.  I'm just freaking out because its high for me.  I have 1 week until my scheduled c/s.  I plan to monitor my bp, probably obsessively. I am just so terrified of another abruption.

  • That stress can't help your blood pressure! And checking it constantly is going to stress you out too. Every pregnancy is different, even for the same person, so the issues you had before certainly may not ever happen again for you! It's good you know what to watch for, so you can be proactive this time, but listen to your doctor! You went through some scary stuff last time, so it is normal to worry. But you can't stress about it to the point where it starts to cause problems.  Hang in there!

  • I'm so sorry. Given your prior experience, I understand why you're concerned. It is heartening to know that the dr. isn't concerned, though. Imo, If it makes you feel better to take your bp regularly at home, then by all means, do it! We have to be the advocates for our LOs.

  • you're not being silly at all- but you're not helping the situation by stressing.  I am only in my 1st pregnancy, but we have the same due date (ignore my ticker, never updated it) and I have the same signs now.  After 9 mos of perfect BP and tests, its now above 120/80 and I had "trace amounts" of protein in my urine last week.  I just started getting a little puffy in my hands and ankles and it freaked me out.  Luckily, this week my urine test went to the lab (instead of just the strip) and there was no protein.  My OB said it's most likely just the last leg of the pregnancy taking its toll on me and to just stay hydrated, rest and DON'T STRESS (easier said than done!!)

But I would say just try to stay positive and trust your Dr. GL!

Thanks - This actually made me feel a lot better about things!

I just got transferred to a new dr for delivery a few weeks ago so I'm still getting to know him and that trust factor is definitely not there for me yet.  I am going to keep a close eye on things though, I know all too well how quickly pre-e can rear its ugly head
