Can anyone tell me about your experiences being placed on baby aspirin for blood clots and/or clotting disorders?
I was diagnosed last week with multiple blood clots in superficial veins. Without testing to see whether I might have a blood clotting disorder, the on-call OB (mine wasn't available) wants me to take a baby aspirin daily until 20 weeks. I miscarried in September and I'm worried taking aspirin might increase my chances of miscarrying this pregnancy. I'm also worried that, because I clotted in a superficial vein, I have a greater likelihood of clotting in a more dangerous one. Does the OBs instructions sound reasonable, or should I insist on a blood test first? I don't particularly care for the on-call OB, so I don't know if that's clouding my judgement.
Re: Blood clots & baby aspirin
the baby aspirin should help prevent against clotting...and miscarriage...not cause it. I also take a baby aspirin a day for a clotting disorder. I would also ask about being tested though if it were me. Maybe call your regular OB and see what she has to say.
Good luck!
Yes baby aspirin works! I had 2 previous m/c and they were both due to blood clotting problems. I was put on baby aspirin before I even got pregnant and I am taking it through 20 weeks. I got a blood test at 6wks and she said it was a good thing I was put on it so early. I am at 14 wks and feeling great with no problems! Good Luck!
If you've had three clots in that amount of time I'm wondering why you aren't on Lovenox plus the baby aspirin. I had a deep vein thrombosis and am on Lovenox. Pregnancy in general increases your clotting risk and like you, I would be worried about developing a clot in a deeper vein.
Like everyone else said, baby aspirin can actually help prevent a miscarriage so I think you're good there.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
