So once upon a time, I had a 12lb toy fox terrier. Ever since CJ came into our world, my dog has easily gained 5 lbs (which doesn't seem like much, but he's a small dog!!!) It started when my dog would sit under the high chair waiting for bites to fall onto the floor. Now CJ eats snacks on the go and usually has some goldfish crackers in a bowl or maybe pretzels to munch on during the day and my dog follows him around just waiting for some food. And of course my toddler thinks it's hilarious to feed the dog. I tell CJ "no" and take the food away but sure enough, he feeds him when I'm not looking. My dog is getting fatter by the day!
Now that the weather is getting nicer, I plan on walking him more but any tips on how to stop a toddler from feeding my dog 24/7? Thanks!

The only thing I know to do is put the dog up. We put our doxie in his cage and my big dogs hang out in our basement where they sleep at night.
DS is very generous with his food when the dogs are around. Even the half chewed up food in his mouth.
DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.
Our dogs never begged for food before Elena. Now they are following her around whenever she is eating. She is getting better about not feeding them. We gate them away from us while we are eating. Elena has also learned to hold snacks above her head so they don't lick them.
I have no real advice. Sorry.
This is us exactly and there is nothing we can do here... We love to feed the dog, he loves to eat, its bad.
Good luck!
This!
Our DS feeds our CAT! So I have no advice here...

That is the cutest photo!
But I have to admit that I HATE when dogs sit right next to me and beg while I am eating. I do not want people OR animals staring at me while I eat! It drives me crazy when I go to other peoples homes and their dogs are right there. Sorry, but true story.
We have our dog outside or gated in the kitchen while we eat. If we forget to, she is pretty good about listening when we tell her to "go lay down" because she is never allowed to be right there next to us when we eat.
I do LOVE that our dog is our little vacuum cleaner though. It is sooo nice to invite her into the dining room when we are finished so she can clean up all the spares from C and the other kids I watch!
