What's the Full Moon hype?

I keep reading about a lot of potential deliveries this weekend because of the Full Moon. Why? What's the story?

It's an OWT that women go into labor during a full moon. I think we've soon how well other OWT about labor hold up though, so I wouldn't count on the entire March board going into labor this weekend.

Some believe that the Full Moon thing is true, some don't. At this point I'm going believe in the power of positive thinking. So this weekend I will put all my efforts into believing that it will work for me. And then next week when I'm still pregnant I will laugh at myself for even thinking that it would work. And then I will cling onto more OWT's and see if I can make them work for me (I draw the line at Castor Oil, not going there).

bring on the full moon - as in my baby's naked butt as it's delivered this weekend!

They are calling this weekends full moon a "super full moon" because it will be the closest it has been to earth in like 18 years or something like that...Some astrologist's are predicting it might mess with mother nature a little bit...

I'm really crossing my fingers that it works for me. I think odds are pretty good, as I'm already overdue. We'll see, though. Chances are I'll still be pregnant for my appointment on Monday.

My OB said that bad weather usually fills up L&D and my MIL who worked in L&D said it always seemed busy on full moons. Maybe it has somthing to do with the gravitational pull? I work with special ed kids and they always seem different on full moons, we chalk it up to gravitational pull b/c it effects the pressure our kids feel (maybe)....I was excited about the "super moon" and the possibility of it inducing labor when I first read the article on yahoo....good luck to everyone with inside babies who are super ready for outside babies.

There was mention of this in my Childbirth 101 class last weekend.

The story is that during extreme storms and full moons, the gravitational pull is higher. It just means that if you were within a day or two already..the extra gravity may help you out.

There's no scientific evidence it's the actual full moon or gravity.. just an "educated guess" as to why labor and delivery fills up on those nights.

since my due date is monday, maybe it'll help me along. that i plan to embrace some of the other OWT this weekend as well. (again, minus the castor oil)

Saturday is my due date, and at my appointment today the midwife said that it looked promising for baby to come this weekend. So maybe he'll be one of the few actually born on his due date

Time will only tell.

I hope it works for me, but I'm not betting on it. MIL found a website that listed all of the full moons and found out that no one in our family was born very close to one so it really is sounding more like an OWT.

All I know is that with my son, the nurse in L&D said it is always busy during a full moon. AND it was a full moon when E was born, there were 13 babies born that day. Everytime a nurse came to my room it was a different one, because they were so very busy. I even had to wait a half hour (while being ready to push) for my OB to get done delivering someone else!

With the full moon, there's more of a gravitational pull...I think that's how it goes. Either way, as night shift employee in an emergency room, I FULLY believe it!!
