I wish I could do it as soon as possible. But, I live in a REALLY small town and the nearest place to get it done would be an hour away. So I am waiting for baby pictures to be done when we are comfortable driving over an hour to get somewhere to do it. We don't have the money to do a professional photographer to come here... so Sears or JC Penney will have to do.

There was an awesome photographer at the hospital that would come to your room and take pictures. So Grayson was 2days old and he did so good. Lots of "sleeping newborn" pictures Here are some of them
I booked a photographer about 2 weeks before LO was born. She said the best time to do them is around 2 weeks after the baby is born. We're going this Sunday and DD will be 2 weeks 3 days.

My mom's a photographer and she always tries to get newborns within their first 10 days! Needless to say.. my little girl is going to be photographed like crazy!
If I had it to do over again, I'd wait until we were out of the hospital. You can see the hospital bands in the pics, and I look aweful in the picture with us kissing him (face was so swollen from IV fliuds, etc).
I'd love to have more pics of him taken, but I can't afford to pay for another session.
I prepaid for our newborn photos, emailed the photographer when she was two days old to let her know that the baby had been born. She said she was available for two days later, so that's when she came over. Addie was 4 days old. She said she was the best baby she's ever worked with, probably because she was so little (and sleepy).

We're getting ours done on Tuesday. Emilie will be two weeks and 3 days old. The photographer prefers the first two weeks, but we couldn't get a time before Tuesday.

I usually photgraph newborns between 6 and 10 days old. They have that perfect newborn curl and sleep a lot. However, I've got great shots of little ones at three and four weeks when they are more alert and make lots of cute face expressions.
Re: Newborn photo shoot? When?
As early as possible but definetly under a month.
