I'm looking for healthy/light/nutritous dessert ideas. I'm envisioning something less sweet than pie/cookies/cake, that has a good amount of something nutritous in it (fruit/veggie/protein...). Sugar is ok, I just want to start reducing it. The only example I can think of is strawberries topped with homemade whip cream. We're just total dessert people and I'd like to start eating more "healthy" desserts.
Thanks!
ps thank you guys again for all your meal planning tips! On Sunday I did the meal planning for the whole week, made a binder, signed up for e-mealz (and used 3 recipes from there), grabbed some others from the suggestions you guys gave me, and shopped on Monday. We've cooked meals from the meal plan the last 3 nights and so far so good! And I LOVE opening the fridge and seeing the produce drawer sooo full - it makes me happy to think how less processed food is being eaten this week :-)
Re: "Healthy" Desserts?
ETA: I usually use vanilla pudding, not chocolate.

strawberries dipped in sugar is one of my favessss. love it! a little bit of crunch from the sugar granules... sweetness, yum!! i may or may not have eaten a carton of strawberries in one sitting with this method the other day.
do you have an ice cream maker? making your own sorbet/sherbet is one of our faves when it warms up!
i eat muffins a lot for dessert too... just use wheat flour to make them healthier but they can still be plenty sweet to count as dessert!
I was trying to find a recipe I liked from the book French Women Don't Get Fat, and I found this website. Looks promising!
The recipe I was looking for was cooked pears with cinnamon. Delicious!
Ditto this.
I despise anything sugar-free......I can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners. However, my dad was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago, so my mom had to get creative. She uses the sugar-free Jello white chocolate pudding mix as a base for TONS of desserts, and I never knew it was sugar-free until she told me. AND I don't like white chocolate, either. But man, that stuff is good. She uses it topped with berries, in a trifle, whatever she can think of. And it's fantastic.

ohhh along the lines of cooked pears...
grilled pineapple is so good! make a little marinade with some brown sugar, cinnamon (we use a little melted butter with the brown sugar to make a glaze)... with some vanilla ice cream (or not) but yum!
This reminds me......I make a fruit dip with fat free Greek yogurt and honey - it tastes similar to Jason's Deli's and is super-easy.

We love grilled pinapple too!! I also like to grill peaches the same way, halve them and sprinkle with some brown sugar and cinammon, yum!
I don't know if you would consider this healthy or not, but these brownies are really good! I don't use cane sugar in any form in any cooking anymore, palm sugar is made out of coconut.

Some that we love:
baked apples
apple or other fruit crisp - peaches are good
banana bread w/ low sugar (sometimes I put in berries for moistness or dark chocolate chips for funsies)
berries with a little softened mascarpone cheese (this is the kind in tiramisu; I add a little cinnamon and sometimes some honey to sweeten the cheese)
dark chocolate covered almonds
just a few broken off pieces of chocolate (usually dark b/c that is the best for my DH)
mashed sweet potatoes with nutmeg and cinnamon
DH does not like the flavor of artificial sweetener, so he thinks a lot of ice creams are gross. He does like the Blue Bell no sugar added varieties. DH is not a big yogurt fan, but I like the Greek brand Fage with some fruit preserves mixed in.
