Postpartum Depression

? about PPD and not taking medicine.

I think I am experiencing a bit of PPD and not sure if I need to go back to the doctor to get medicine. I went to the doctor at 4 weeks and told him I was having anxiety issues so he prescribed me 1 mg xanax extended release. But now I am starting to have some depression. I was wondering if anyone has had PPD and not taken medicine for it? And if you didnt take medicine for it, how long did it take for the PPD to go away?

Re: ? about PPD and not taking medicine.

  • I have post partum anxiety issues.  It took counseling for me to get off my meds both before having a child and after.  I am back on meds again, but will try to get myself off of them within a year again...but I probably have to go back to counseling again.

  • I'm a lurker on this board but have been dealing with PPA/PPD since I week PP. I'm not on medication but am going to a weekly support group and have changed my lifestyle. DS is almost 5 months and I am feeling a lot better. There is hope!

  • I ended up being suicidal and in a emergency room due to being unmedicated.

not that this will happen to you - but the threat is there for anyone who ignores depression.

It took me SO much longer to get better b/c I let it go so far.  I wish I wouldn't have.

I think it's best to get a professional opinion about how you feel.

    Good luck!!
