I got it at a yard sale, new in a box for $20. I wouldnt pay full price on a new one, since you're not going to use it for very long. It's definitely been helpful in these first few months.
I have the original Bjorn and I love it. I used it with DD up until she hit the size/weight limit and I've used it a handful of times so far with DS. It was a lifesaver for me because I would carry LO around when I had to go grocery shopping, or anywhere that the stroller would be too cumbersome.
I would look on ebay or craigslist before buying one brand new.
I never liked the actual Baby Bjorn because of how they hold that babies- so uncomfy. I do use carriers though- I like ring slings, mei teis, and wraps.
I dont use this brand personally, but I know many moms like the moby wrap. I use a Wrapsody wrap.
I have a baby bjorn and a sleepy wrap (like a moby). I use the bjorn when we are out of the house and actually keep it in my car next to my stroller so that it is always handy. I use the wrap around the house. My daughter and I both prefer the wrap, as it is more comfy for both of us. It is great for getting chores done and calming a fussy baby. If I could only have one, I would definately get a wrap over the bjorn at this point.

I tried all three of the highlighted carriers and didnt like them at all. I never feel comfortable in a ring sling, and the wraps are just too much work to get on/adjusted right and I prefer the bjorn because it's very quick and easy to adjust to make comfortable for you.
My best advice is don't pay full price for a carrier, and try to find some locally so you can try one out with your baby to see if he likes it. My DS hated the bjorn, but loved the ring sling. My DD hates the sling, but loves the bjorn.
I just got mine last week! I put LO in there yesterday and at first he was fussy (but he was fussy to begin w/ b/c he was tired) and then he fell asleep for an hour and a half in there and I was able to get lots done. I love it and can't wait to take him for walks and go to the store w/ him in there!!
we used one for 8 months with DD1. She hated being wrapped, hated the car seat and stroller and hated facing in once she hit 3 months (so no go on the ergo until she was big enough for a hip or back carry).
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."
