The UO thread made me think about healthy eating.
I totally judge people who NEVER bring a homemade lunch to work, and eat cafeteria crap or frozen meals everyday. Some of these people then complain about their blood pressure/migraines/weight/etc.
DH and I cook enough dinner for about 3 people each night. Then we pack a lunch that's a leftover portion, fresh fruit, an All-Bran bar (not great but we love them), a yougurt and a bottle of water.
People ask if we get sick of eating the same thing all the time, but we don't because we have a huge variety of meals and so our leftovers have variety too. We plan out our meals for the week making sure things that are alike are spread out. Planning meals also saves us money and trips to the grocery store, as we buy everything we need for the week on Saturday (more or less).
This week's menu was:
Sat - Moose burgers
Sun - Chicken pot pie
Mon - Fajitas
Tues - Spaghetti (whole wheat)
Wed - Pizza
Tonight - Chicken curry
Tomorrow - DATE NIGHT!!! Dinner out!
So how do you eat healthy?
Re: How do you eat healthy?
I don't place as much importance on calories/fat as I do on just making a balanced meal. KWIM? I think if you make a balanced meal with a salad or veggie, then you can have a cream-based pasta dish or something like that. I just try to fill half my plate with veggies.
I think the new food recommendation is 1/4 of your plate should be whole grains, another 1/4 should be lean protein and the remaining 1/2 should be veggies.
The two men in my life. Oh, and I have a husband too...
LOL - I didn't figure that would just get passed over. Moose is really quite good. If it's a younger animal (a year or so old) it tastes pretty much like beef.
My dad is a very picky hunter. He makes sure that the animal isn't too old and is healthy looking. Mom jokes that he licks them before he'll shoot them.
It's super lean, free range, organic. What's not to like?
And an added bonus: every moose in a freezer is one that can't kill me on the highway.
I just realized that you live in Newfoundland! My DH and I went on a long vacation there and absolutely loved it. We backpacked in Gros Morne, went up to L'anse aux Meadows, spent some time in Twillingate and then eventually made it to St. Johns. We keep talking about going back. It is so beautiful and everyone was incredibly friendly.
That's too bad, I'd send you some if I could.
