We are thinking about going to get an elective ultrasound on either friday when i will be 17 wks 3 days or saturday when i will be 17 wks 4 days. Should we be able to get a pretty accurate gender determination at this point or will it change when we go for a/s on april 4.
Re: 17 week elective ultrasound
I have an appointment for this Friday evening and I will be 17 weeks 3 days. I talked to them about the accuracy, and they said it is very accurate. If they can't tell you the gender, they will bring you back for free-seemed pretty low risk to me.
I had the elective u/s with my OB's office at 16w5d, and we could tell without a doubt that we're having a little boy...it helped that he was super cooperative and practically flipped his feet over his head to show us his package. lol I dont see why you wouldnt be able to get a definitive picture...as long as the u/s tech knows what to look for, you shouldnt have a problem. We're so happy we did it...
If anything, at least you'll get the extra chance to see your LO! GL!
I thought I was 17 weeks 2 days when I went. I was measuring 17 weeks exactly. She thinks girl but was only 80-90% sure. Needless to say I have to go back anyways for the anatomy scan in two weeks.
I've been reading and since she said girl it's more likely it could possibly be a boy versus if she had said boy and seen the parts I would have felt more comfortable.
Good Luck!
I don't think this is true. A swollen labia can look like a penis and have heard many stories of this (at my OB's most recently, which scares me and can't wait to go back for my anatomy scan to confirm my baby boy). Just make sure they get a good turle shot, and not just a protusion or see the three lines/hamburger for girl.
The place that I chose will guarantee their sex determinations at 17 weeks. And, they'll guarantee that they can make that determination at 17 weeks, or they'll bring you back until they can see.
We're going this Saturday. I'll be 17w2d at that point. It's DH's birthday and both sets of grandparents are invited.
Here's DS' 17 week shot. You tell me if you think you'll be able to get an accurate shot...
I also don't think this is true. I think it's the other way around, since they all start off with what looks like boy parts, then when it's a girl, those retreat
. So it's more likely, that if you see a boy at an early elective u/s and it's actually a girl, it could be that they haven't "retreated" yet. If you see the 3 lines that indicate a girl, most likely, that is accurate.
