super small baby shower, need ideas

I have a friend from church who has no family here and is pregnant with her 2nd child, a boy. She has a 4 year old daughter already. I offered to throw her a small "shower" if you can even call it that.  There will be about 10 of us, if that.  Any ideas on what i should do?  I was thinking of doing something at home but someone suggested out at a restaurant....i feel like since i would prob be paying a restaurant might be too expensive for me....any other fun ideas or suggestions? thanks!

  • We did a tea for my friend with about 10 guests. It was a weekend at about 10AM, small finger sandwiches, fruit salad and tea. Super simple and lady like. I asked each guest to bring a tea cup from home so we all had stories to tell about the cups. If anyone flinches at the idea of a second baby shower (we don't do them around here), you can have a sip 'n see once the baby arrives where you could do the same thing. Very sweet of you to do!

  • I agree with the tea idea, or do a luncheon at home.
  • I find that the smaller "sprinkles" are usually women sitting around chatting.  We usually do a pot luck brunch with the usual suspects and just sit around, stuff ourselves and chat.  Oh, and there are a couple of gifts thrown in.

  • I just hosted a small shower for a friend having her 1st baby.  I held it at my house in the late afternoon and served appetizers and desserts (hummus, babaganoush, and red pepper dip w/ bread and veggies; chocolate covered strawberries, and chocolate cake w/ raspberries).  The only "game" we did was bib and onesie decorating, which was perfect b/c with a shower that size everyone had a great time just sitting around chatting.  More games or games that required focusing on just the game would have felt like they were ruining the great mood.  I actually had the stuff to do 2 other games, but it just never felt like the time was right.  It was low key, but I tried to do some small touches to make it festive.  I decorated by hanging the onesies and bibs on a piece of string strung across the room, a vase of flowers, and some helium balloons.  I also made a diaper cake as my main gift, so it doubled as a decoration.
  • This is exactly what my 2 friends are doing for me. I have lived here for 5 years but don't have any family and only friends I have met at work and as neighbors. So they are throwing me a sprinkle. It is going to be an afternoon luncheon at my neighbors house (one of the hostess).

She was talking of doing finger sandwiches (egg salad, cucumber and cream cheese, ham, turkey, etc.) Then salads like a greek pasta salad, fruit salad, green salad. Then a cake and cookie for dessert with blue baby punch and a wine punch. It is going to be simple but I can't wait! I think that a home shower is just as nice as a resturant if not more personal so nicer :)

  • You can do a afternoon tea with mommy and me type theme. Serve just tea and coffee and cake!

  • I love the ideas about serving a tea - that would be a perfect food and drink solution.

I'm having my second baby in July and a friend is throwing me a sprinkle - totally sweet of her. Anyway, she chatted with me about it and we decided to call it a "Heads and Tails" sprinkle. If guests want to bring a gift, she's encouraging them to bring either a favorite children's book - for the "head" - or some diapers - for the "tail." No registry or clothing tastes to worry about - just two things everyone always can use more of!
