We just had DD#2 check-in app't with her pediatric neurologist (the one who diagnosed her- we see her every 6 months)... We hadn't seen her since Sylvie began school last fall and lost all her ABA at-home services, so I was bracing myself for a bit of a beat-down from the doctor, who's BIG into ABA... well, she's THRILLED with Sylvie's progress and thinks the therapy model we've put together for her shouldn't be touched. She actually said the words, "It's clear to me that she's losing her diagnosis." OMG. I literally almost started bawling right there in her office. I realize we're still a long way from potentially losing her PDD dx and she's always going to be a quirky kid, but I honestly never even let my head go there because I didn't want to set myself up with unrealistic expectations.
Anyway, I apologize if this comes off boastful or anything... I'm not bragging, I'm just feeling very humbled by my little girl's progress. She's worked so so hard these past 2 years and I'm just so proud of everything she's accomplished.
Re: OMG, a good doctor's visit?!!?
This is fantastic!!!! I am so excited you for you guys! What terrific news!
What are you guys doing now? what therapies are working best for Sylvie?
Thanks, ladies! I imagine you can all relate to how I felt this morning... all sweaty and anxious, bracing myself to hear all the things still wrong with DD (at least that's how most of our doctor appt's go!) It was SUCH a shock and pleasant change of pace to hear we shouldn't do anything different for now.
As for the therapies, she's in an integrated preschool room (FT) that is run with ABA principles in mind, but she doesn't get any specific one-on-one table time. She gets pull-out speech, OT & PT, along with private speech & OT... nothing super crazy or intense, I don't think.
That's great news! Congrats to you, and to your DD on her progress!
It's really encouraging to hear that therapies can make such a difference.
