OB Recs

Hey Everyone,

I am looking for an OB&GYN in the Orlando area that delivers at WP and DOES NOT discriminate against weight.  I am a 28 year old healthy active woman who just happens to be overweight.  I went to an OB visit yesterday for my yearly and we talked about conception and she recs that I wait 1-2 years and drop 50+ pounds.

Thanks,

Kristen

I go to see Dr. Kareem at the Women's Center. They have I think 4 different office's but I go to the one off of Orange close to Winnie Palmer.  She is fantastic and she for sure does not discriminate.  Good Luck and you will not regret going to her.

So yesterday I went to my yearly appointment and also talked about TTC.  Basically the Dr told me to wait a year or two and drop 50+ pounds.  It broke my heart.  She said that I am young and that it would be best to wait.  Other then being over weight (245) I am healthy, I don't eat processed foods, I walk 4 miles everyday.  It is heart breaking, but on some level I knew that she would say that.  Anyone in Central Florida with an OB that has treated overweight pregnant women with ease?

kms379, your doctor may have had her heart in the right place but if you are in a place where you can afford it financially and your husband and you have already decided it is your next step then your doctor needs to support your decision.  I would find another doctor.  It's not a bad idea to contineu to exercise and try to eat healthy but I think you need to find someone else who will help you achieve pregnancy.

I go to Loch Haven OB/Gyn. They don't work out of Winnie Palmer, but the doctors specialize in high risk pregnancy and have a higher rating then the doctors that do work out of Winnie.

The negative is that they work out of Florida Hospital, which has lower ratings than Winnie. When it came down to it tho, i was more interested in having a doctor caring for me that's at the hospital 24/7 rather than an intern at a hospital with a little better technology.

I'm 40, 6 years post gastric bypass, was borderline diabetic before i got pregnant and am hypothyroid. They have a triage nurse available via telephone 24/7 that will answer any stupid question you have about anything... even if your gums should be bleeding when you brush :)

I also see a perinatologist, which is an even more specialized doctor to keep me and baby healthy during the pregnancy.

Personally, i would permanently replace your gynecologist if the best advice she could come up with was "lose some weight".

My previous Gyno used to give me hell because i was in my late 30's and didn't want kids. "You better hurry up if you want to get pregnant that door is closing". She stopped doing OB, however due to the high cost of insurance.

Best of luck to you ;)

I used Dr. Gearity who is in practice with the previous poster's Dr. Kareem. The  Women's Center is awesome all around and I ended up seeing every doctor. Although I don't have personal expreience with the weight issue the practice came highly recommended from a friend who did. They only deliver at Winnie Palmer and only admit baby there or at Arnold Palmer if necessary.

They have several locations in the Orlando/Kissimmee/Saint Cloud area.

I go to OB & Gyn Specialists.  They have offices in Sand Lake, Winter Park, and Oviedo and only deliver at Winnie Palmer.  There are 11 physicians and a few ARNPs.  Surely  you could  find one of the many practicioners there who you'd like!  I have liked all the ones I've had there so far, and I've been going there 4 years!
