Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Did your LO grew out of their RNP?

Just visiting from 0-3 months.  If your LO sleeps in their RNP at night, when did they grow out of it, so they weren't comfortable anymore?  I know it says up to 25lbs, but what have your experiences been (weight/length)?  When he grows out of it, we have to move him to his own room in the crib, so just want to know when I should start preparing him, and us.  :-)  TIA!

Re: Did your LO grew out of their RNP?

  • We started using a crib at 12 weeks and our lo started sleeping 10-12 hrs!!!!!!!! We do still have the crib in our room though.

  • DD technically hasn't grown out of it...but she started sitting up in it...so that's when we "retired" it for good.

we transitioned her out of the RNP for night time when she was about 4 months, but still used it for naps & relaxing until a few weeks ago.

  • We transitioned D from the RnP to his crib when he was 6 weeks. Now I use the RnP when we travel and for some naps. He's napping in it right now!

I also put him in it with a toy while I'm cooking dinner, doing chores, etc. He loves it.

  • I transitioned her at 13 weeks b/c I felt it was time for her to get used to her crib, but she did not outgrow it.

Wow!  Was is hard for your LO to get used to sleeping flat again?  We tried going back to the bassinet last night as a bit of experiment and he slept 3hrs, then 2, then up every 45mins.  It was a rough night!  In the RNP we can usually get 4hr, then every 2-3 hours until he's up for the day.

His crib is huge!  I don't think it will fit in our room.  His room in right next door, but I'm not sure I'm ready...

  • i am not ready to put ly LO in the other room! she sleep in her carseat most of the time bc when i lay her flat, her eyes pop open! i am ready however to transition her to the craddle without the car seat, but im not sure i am ready for the sleepless nights! right now, since she has been born she sleeps all night... so i am ready for the no sleep nights? well actually now that she teething the whole sleeping all night is about to go out the window!

    good luck

It was horrible getting him use to the crib.  It took WEEKS.  First off, I put a pillow under the head of the mattress so it was raised a little like the RNP.  He started off taking naps in there.  And even that took about a week before he would take a good nap.  Then I put the RNP next to his crib over night.  The 1st night I did that I was so worried.  My DH made fun of me & the next morning when we woke up he said "It's amazing!!  He's alive & fine!!"  thanks dh.  lol...Eventually Carson made it sleeping in the crib overnight but it was a long process.  Good luck!   Oh & he was a little over 3 months when he got to big for it.  I went in to get him one day & his little toes were hanging over the edge. Freaked me out!

  • She doesn't fit in it only because we swaddle her for sleeping. It's too tight when her arms are trapped by her sides. If her arms were free she'd still fit fine.

  • LO doesn't like to sit in it and was laying flat on the inclined part, so we moved her last week with no problems. We swaddle, which helped.

We swaddle too.  Is her crib in a separate room?  Did you just start one night without any transition stuff, unlike the PP?  The reason we went back to the bassinet was to try to transition I guess to a flat surface.  He still won't nap in the crib and wakes when I put him down in there. DH says our crib mattress is not firm enough so he wants a new one before we try in there anyhow...
