Good morning ladies;
I used to be a regular on TTCAL, but I'm not really a regular anywhere anymore - more of a lurker.
I've had 3 failed IUI's - but the first one should have been cx'ed (clomid resulted in 5-6 mature follies with 5mm lining on trigger day). The second 2 IUI's have been femara/trigger with 2 mature follies and 9mm+ lining on the day of trigger. We are unexplained and my husbands' swimmers are good.
A few posts I made on IF made me think I should seek out a new RE, and so I had a consult with one yesterday. She pushed IVF like I couldn't believe and made me think it was my only hope - even though we are OOP for a few more months. She said, "3 IUIs, even though the first should have been cancelled, is enough to convince me that IUIs don't work for you. You can try a few more and maybe get lucky, but you're probably wasting your time and money."
My existing RE wants to do one more femara/trigger cycle before moving onto 3 injectible IUI cycles. Then IVF.
So after all this - I'm wondering if anyone has had success with IUI after 3 failed tries? Or did anyone move right on to IVF after 3 failed IUIs?
Thanks for reading, and for any feedback!

This exactly. I actually had a BFP with #4 (first with follistim) but it was a c/p.
I did #5 with back to back iui's immediately after that cycle and I am currently 7.5 weeks!
iui #5 2/7 + 2/8 = BFP!! 11 dpiui
Beta #1 2/18 11dpiui= 46, Beta #2 13dpiui 150, Beta #3 16dpiui 584!!

I moved to IVF after 3 clomid + TI and 3 IUIs with injectables. I'm OOP for everyting and just did not want to waste any more time/money with IUIs. I'm convinced that more clomid cycles or more injectable cycles wouldn't work for us because each cycle we did I always have 2 or 3 good follies and my DH produced good quality samples and it just never worked.
For us 3 IUIs with injectables cost almost the same as 1 IVF. I'm glad we moved on because we got our first ever BFP with the first IVF.

There are a handful of ladies on my local IF board whose RE did this as well. I thought it was strange too. Though if I had IF coverage I might have jumped to IVF too - the odds are so much higher and I just wanted all the madness to come to an end.

We moved on to IVF after two failed IUIs with donor sperm. Both failed IUI cycles looked perfect, but didn't work. Honestly, I just couldn't take the emotional roller coaster and devastation of failure, and was ready to take my chances with something more likely to actually work. We were looking at a 10-20% success rate for each IUI, but because I'm young and healthy with no known fertility issues (31yo), we'd probably 60% success rate with IVF.
My RE thinks I may have endometriosis, which would make the IUIs less likely to work but does not interfere with IVF. Who knows. I did get a second opinion after the two failures, and the doc basically said we could try one or two more IUIs (I'm a good responder so injectibles wouldn't have been a good idea, would have ended up with too many eggs), and they might work, but they might not. It was just how much we could take emotionally and what we were willing to do financially.
I got a BFP after our first IVF, and we have 7 high quality frozen embryos for future tries if this one doesn't stick, or siblings!
1st IUI cycle- 50 mg of clomid+metformin+hcg= bfn
2nd IUI cycle- 100 mg clomid= Cancelled due to no responce
3rd IUI cycle- 150 mg clomid +metformin+hcg+ prog. supps= bfn
4th IUI cycle- 5mg Femara+metformin+hcg+ prog supps= bfp
Same here. Except it was our 3rd time doing injects (one of which we did not do an IUI). I personally wanted to exhaust ALL our possibilities before spending the $ on IVF, and I'm glad I did. GL to you!
