How much to pay Nanny?

We are looking for child care and I found a Nanny that I really like. What should I expect to pay a Nanny for an 8 week old 3 days a week? I have no idea. I thought I had a good feel on the in home day care prices but everyone is quoting me higher prices. I never even thought about hiring a nanny but I really like this one girl who responded to my ad.

TIA!

Re: How much to pay Nanny?

  • We have used part-time nannies since the girls were little.  We pay $10/hour for college-aged sitters.  However, if you go through an agency, rates range from $12-$20 depending on experience with the average being about $15/hour.

  • I would say $10-12 an hour.
  • When we were looking at nannies, we ended up getting quotes between $15 and $20 an hour.  It's so expensive, which is why we went with a center.  I'm sure it's worth it, if you can afford it.

  • The short answer - it all depends.
  • We have been quoted between 10 and 15/hr.

  • As a former nanny I can tell you that there is a lot more than just the salary to think about.

Salary is typically between $12-$15 per hour.

You have to pay taxes on them since they are your employee so that will add an additional 15ish% ( I don't remember off hand)

Most nannies get 2 weeks paid vacation and 1 week of paid sick days.

If you go on vacation or decide to take off work (or nanny isn't expected to work for any reason) you are still expected to pay her.

If you don't provide the nanny with a vehicle you will need to pay for her gas that she uses while on duty (and also provide a car seat for her car). I believe the milage is about $.50/mile.

Most nannies will get a weekly stipend to take the kids out and about (varies $20-100/week)

Majority of nannies will ask their employeer to pay part of their healthcare premium. Nannies than don't usuallly fall in the higher price bracket.

HTH. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

  • I guess I should add that the pricing differences we have been quoted are often related to the duties the nanny is expected to perform. For example, meal preparation, transportation to activities, light housekeeping, etc.
