Carters in Tukwila & my big ears baby.. *vent*

Ok ladies.. I need to vent. This morning I walked into Carters in Tukwila and was greeted by a younger gentleman probably in his mid to high 20's. He was chatting with me about St. Patricks Day outfits then he looks at my daughter and says, "has anyone ever told you that your baby has elf ears"? I was taken back.. I just said no and walked out. Granted my daughters ears stick out a little bit, but I happen to think it's cute. She's a baby for Gods sake.. I'm debating calling back to speak with a manager.. Any thoughts or does anyone else have a similar story? Is it wrong of me to be pretty pissed about this?

  • Did he look filipino by chance?  We were there on Friday and bought some stuff and I thought it was weird that he asked my mom if she was hawaiian?  My mom likes to talk and didn't think anything of it, but I felt like it came out of the blue.

  • YES!! He needs to keep his mouth shut. I have a feeling he will after my husband chats w/ his boss.
  • I know which sales guy you're talking about - he actually is a manager :(

He's always been super nice when I've been there.

  • I wonder if he meant it as a compliment?  As in a misguided attempt at telling you they were cute?   Most people wouldn't just insult a child on purpose.

  • When I called to talk to a manager he didn't say he was one. I would be absolutely blown away if he was. Not professional what-so-ever. Not just with his comment, but with other basic customer service skills.

  • Yikes, I certainly wouldn't consider that a compliment.  I probably wouldn't bother calling about it, though, but that's just me.
  • That is terrible! Sorry someone made you feel that way!

this! I would have been upset also. I think some people don't think before they speak

  • I'm sorry you had a bad experience! My guess is he was trying for a complement, but didn't quite succeed. I'm guessing he meant she had had cute little elf/pixie ears? Still, so not ok!

At the Carter's store in North Bend I had a manager tell me how DD was so adorable and then TRIED TO GRAB HER OUT OF MY ARMS TO HOLD HER! Amazingly, I managed to stay calm, but DH looked like he wanted to kill her!

  • I think he had to have been trying to say she was cute. No one would just say oh you have an ugly baby. So while I would have been irritated inwould hbe said "what a mean thing to say!" and left. I don't know that I'd be worked up enough to call the manager and get the guy in trouble.

People used to always make comments about how my baby was fat. Some were well stated, some were not. Some comments transformed into me having cream in my boobs instead of milk, etc. It bugged me every.single.time. I know they were just trying to say that he was a cute, chubby baby, but I was really sensitive about it!

He probably didn't mean anything by it, although it is a really odd comment. I would just try to brush it off as best I could and move on.
