How do you get through a crappy day? (whine/vent)

Long story short, DH and I aren't getting along. We don't usually fight, but the past few months have been a little shaky. Whenever we're fighting, I feel like I can't function (wow, that makes me seem really weak)....

Anyways, how do you make time go by faster and keep your mind occupied when you're feeling down?

  • I don't think this weather helps at all...but maybe take the kids some place to play.  Have dinner with some girlfriends and maybe a drink?  I clean when I am mad...lol

  • Oh gosh, I'm so sorry. I think it's perfectly natural to feel the way you do when you and your spouse are arguing. I hope you guys can find a way to work through the tough times.

Can I ask, do you think you could be experiencing PPD?

I like reading books, cleaning, baking, or working on a project around the house when I'm trying to stay busy. Or taking the kids out or doing a craft with them seems to cheer me up if I'm in the dumps.

I've never been through it, but I don't think so. I'm usually a very positive person. I love my children and am not feeling overwhelmed in that respect.

I just feel very disconnected from DH, and I think he feels the same...but isn't that normal when you have an infant + 2 other children? I don't expect it to always be like this, you know?

It sounds like you might need some time together to find your way back to each other.  I'm sorry you are going through a rough patch.

As far as the PPD goes, my major symptom was endless (unwarranted) frustration with DH.  I felt like I was the one who was having to make the most sacrifices being a new parent, which was so untrue that I even knew it was irrational, but I couldn't stop feeling that way.  Of course, those feelings led to resentment and arguments and that just made me feel worse.  I had the mom part worked out but I was putting so much of my energy into that that I was also neglecting myself and him.  I guess it couldn't hurt to be evaluated - PPD is different for everyone and it isn't necessarily the same as clinical depression.

    Hugs.

  • It's tough when you have kids hanging off of you, the gray weather is really sucky too.  I'm really sorry you're having a rough time, it sucks feeling overwhelmed with less than happy emotions.

I too find it refreshing to get out of the house with the kids, even if it's just to run to the store real quick or grab a bite to eat.  I understand there are probably some challenges for you with three little ones, because sometimes just taking my two out is a job in itself.  But fresh air would probably help.

Aside from that, getting a lot of stuff done around the house helps if you're able.  I tackle the laundry mountain, or clean a bathroom, or sweep.

If nothing else, sit on the couch and cuddle with your little ones and watch a cute movie or something.  The hugs and cuddles from my kids really are a soothing balm on a crummy day.

    Big hugs Kristin.

  • I am sorry you're having a rough day. For me when I'm mad or frustrated with DH i tend to keep thinking about it and replaying fights in my head or thinking of what I was going to say to him next etc. I find this only  makes me more frustrated so try and keep your mind off things like that and focus on the good things happening today. Go to the park, play outside, focus on something cute the kids did.

Hope the rest of the week gets better.
