Success after IF

Isn't it too early for this?!

I'm 17 weeks and already so swollen I want to cry!  I can't find my ankle bones, my feet look like sausages, and not a single pair of shoes fit.  I can't get my rings off . . . . even my eyelids and lips are swollen!  Between that and the pound or two I've gained in my face, I don't hardly recognize myself!  What's the deal?!  I suppose I expected some of this toward the end, but . . . . . ?

Any thoughts?  And if you really do think I'm "normal" ;)  (relatively speaking!) Any tips on how to handle this?  Just elevating my feet doesn't seem to offer much relief (and besides, how much throughout the day can you do that, really?), and certainly doesn't help my other body parts!

Re: Isn't it too early for this?!

  • I had 1 day where I swelled up big time. I couldn't get my shoes on. I drank a ton more water and put my feet up whenever I could and it went way down by the next day.

  • Did this happen over night? If so, call your OB. Now. It's a sign of pre-E.

If it's been happening over time, not as worriesome. The swollen face is a big concern though - especially lips and eyelids!

  • I would call your OB and have your BP checked. I definitely had swelling in hands and feet earlier than those with singletons because with twins you are probably measuring further along than you actually are and as a result get symptoms/complications earlier. I agree with the pp that the main concern would be the swelling in your face. I called my OB in a panic once because of swelling when I was about 17-18 weeks and they brought me in and checked my BP and urine just to be sure. GL, but don't be afraid to call, that's what they are there for.
  • I agree that you should call.  Swelling in your face should be checked out.  Hopefully it's nothing but it's a warning sign you shouldn't let go.  Good luck.
  • I would call your ob...it seems too early, esp. if you eyelids are swollen! I'm 23 weeks pregnant with twins and have zero swelling at all. Just to be on the safe side I'd call the dr!! Let us know!!
  • Call your OB. The hands and feet swelling is normal, I started swelling at 18 weeks. The face swelling is something to be concerned about and have checked out ASAP. For the hand and feet swelling you need to be drinking a ton of water, at least 3 litres or more a day. Cut way back on your sodium intake and get your feet up whenever possible. In the third tri. I found that just getting my feet of the floor was not enough, I had to have them elevated up above my chest, so I would watch tv on the couch and stack 3 throw pillows under my legs to get them elevated enough and it worked along with the water.
